K-1 visa from outside the country? (among other things)

Hi all. I am a US citizen currently completing an MA degree in the UK with plans to move back to the US in September. The current plan is to begin the application process for a K-1 fiance visa for my other half within the next few weeks in the interest of saving some time on the process. I started our K1 Visa process while I was out of the country myself. You would need to be sure it's posted from inside the US, but there's a LOT of waiting in the meantime, as I'm sure you know. I did this all back in 2005 so I'm not entirely sure how much of it has changed, but I know that the financial information part did seem to come later on. The initial part was writing the letters of intent, providing proof that we were a "real couple", and the proper forms and the big check.

As far as the other questions, I also highly recommend the Visa Journey page. It's a lifesaver when it comes to this stuff.
