As the above posters have indicated, yes, you need three years of residency to get the home fees. You must ALSO have ILR, which is easy enough on a spousal visa. :)

Just chiming in to let you know that I've researched it too and the golden number is three years of residency, not necessarily citizenship, so if you can wait three years to go to grad school to save money, do it :)

In addition to the three years of residency that everyone else has mentioned, those three years don't start on the day you move to the UK: they start on the first 1st September after you move - so for my wife, who moved to the UK on 15th September, the wait period before qualifying for home student rates is, in effect, four years.

You will have to pay overseas fees. I am studying right now as an overseas student. What I did learn this summer when I was applying to schools though, is that you might be able to go part time. On a student visa you are not allowed part time, but I think since you are on a spousal visa I am pretty sure it doesn't apply. Look into it before you trust me though, I only glanced at it since I knew I would be on a student visa. If you are part time then you can work more, and I don't think you will have to follow the work only 20 per week rule because again you are not on the student visa.

Thanks for all your input, you guys (horribly disappointing, though).

I think I might have a way around this...it looks like I can take a distance course from Aberyswyth for 3000 quid lower than overseas tuition. It will take a year longer than the regular masters, but I'm not a hurry, really, and I don't feel like living there, anyway :).

Is this a fluke, or do distance degrees really cost less than attending the uni?

Thanks again!
