Why do you need the cheque? If he has your account number and sort code, and the cheque he can deposit it for you.

I thought I had to sign it. It's great if I don't have to, though.

Nope, in the UK you don't have to counter-sign cheques when you pay them in.

I fell foul of this whilst living in the US, I had my bank make a big fuss when I paid in a cheque that I hadn't countersigned.

If it's made out in your name and it's going into your bank account of the same name, he just has to go into his local branch, fill out a paying-in slip and present it at the counter. If it was going into an account of another name then yes, he'd have to get you to sign it, but most banks are less bothered when the names all match up.

That's great news. I'll tell my boyfriend to just deposit it then. :-)

I believe he can deposit your check at your bank without signing anything. I've had other people deposit money on my behalf in the past.

If the account name matches the name on the cheque, the bank will let him deposit it - my mum's deposited cheques for me like that. One time they even attempted to deposit my cheque into my sister's account; they really aren't that bothered...

You're the fourth person to say that, so I guess it's true. Wonderful! Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Everybody beat me to it, but I don't think you'll have any problems if he's just depositing and not withdrawing any funds. Best of luck!
