I admit to being a Daily Show fiend, so when I saw this interview with John Oliver in The Gothamist posted in my other community, thedailyshow, I thought you guys would appreciate it.

Here's a sample:

Prior to moving to America, what was your perception of the US? My political perception of the US was similar to that of the rest of the planet which was ‘ ( Read more... )

LOL, thats an unfortunate looking man right there.

Mmmm...anyone who thought Bush getting re-elected was "un-fucking-lievable" didn't follow the damn election. ONLY time I've been ashamed to be democrat. Bitchassed "Kerry". God knows when the democrats will have another election HANDED to them like that.

"That this country has not once more erupted into civil war shows admirable restraint."

Interesting take, but as an American, I'd have to disagree. I don't think it's a matter of restraint, I think it's more a matter of laziness, complacency, and a very short and short-sighted attention span. Basically, we are a disgrace to our 'Fore Fathers.

Oh, and thanks for the "decent food" comment...made me chuckle.

Agreed. Completely. In fact, I am very much looking forward to having healthcare once I move to the UK. It's sad, but basically, I should be considered one of the "haves" in this country, but I still don't have any health insurance or enough money to get it. We don't take care of our own anymore, and by our own, I mean our citizens in general.

Hell, even watching from the UK I thought I would never in any situation be able to vote for a guy who couldn't even raise his arms in triumph without looking stiff and uncomfortable (see Kerry).

Not to mention that the demonisation of Bush in the European press (and frankly much of the US press) is so ridiculous that at times its laughable.

...the wierdness when you realise that you're a British Republican. Good job I'm moving to Texas. :)

What are some aspects of American Culture that you enjoy that aren't found in the UK?
You have something here called ‘decent food’ which could really catch on back in the UK if people just gave it a chance.

LOL!!
