People should have to read and sign a disclosure agreement containing these tips before filling in the birth certificate.

I live by #2 - my parents should have read this list.

In all fairness, buying kids stuff with their names on it is like giving Bad Guys a free pass to talk to your kid and call them by name. It was kind of a joke comment, but the schools / IRS bit is for real.

Trust me on that.

I was just really annoyed when, as a kid, I would receive gifts from my grandmother and my name would be spelled wrong. She had a penchant for purchasing those novelties that come with a name on them - and of course no store sold anything with my name spelled properly.

The school never did either, actually. They never believed me when I tried to correct them :-S

I love it! I've been reading NotWithoutMyHandbag since I heard about it. It's hysterical.
I think my child is pretty safe for a name.
For a girl Sophia Elizabeth.
I'm still working on boys names. :D

I think Sophia Elizabeth is lovely, and I notice that you did not spell Elizabeth is a funky, "original" way! W00t! :)

Hahahahaha!

My parents named me Noelle Leigh Baer w/o (I assume) thinking. When it's said, it comes off as Noelley Baer. Which is kind of cute, actually, so I have no problem with it. But stiiiiiiiiiill.

You were spared the VC Andrews "Heaven Leigh," though, for which you must be eternally grateful.

I hear that Nevaeh is the new hot name for those seeking uniqueness. Too bad it is high up on the list of popular names because all those unique parents all decided to be oh so unique.

If you say "unique" a lot, it starts to sound funny.

(How do you catch a unique rabbit? Unique up on it!)

If you say any word a lot, it starts to sound really weird/funny.

But Rebecca Grace is pretty, at least, right? I like it, anyway.

This is true. When I was little I hated the sound of it and wished I'd been named something like Esmerelda or Cathain, something that sounds - ironically enough - different and exotic and foreign. It's grown on me though ^^; even though I still hate the meaning and blame it on my innate clumsiness *grin* Rebecca, depending on you ask means "snare" or "to tie or bind", and Grace is self explanatory.
