Riots in the streets!

Copenhagen - the city I live in - is on fire. Squatters in a youth house in the centre of the city have been evicted. For two nights now the streets have been on fire. Last night three cars outside my house were burned out and Thursday evening I had to run with a friend and two small children through tear-gas to get home. The children aged two and ( Read more... )

Oh, no, Laura! I will keep you in my prayers, for your safety and peace, and your children as well. I will also lift up all of the people affected by this, and those so angry or empty that they would behave that way.

***hugs to you***

Thank you. The most unbelievable thing is that the people who asked the police to evict the squatters (and who basically could have solved this situation without violence all the way through) is a group of fundamentalist christians. However they do not seem to be christians in the "peace towards mankind" kind of way but rather in the "see-us-get-maximum-media-attention-and-let-all-who-believe-differently-than-us-burn-in-hell". It is all really tragic ( ... )

I didn't even know, granted I haven't been watching television today. I'm so sorry, I can only imagine how terrifying that is, and just how hard it is to see that happening in your city. I'm a native New Yorker, so I know when on 9/11 my skyline was taken out, it ripped off a part of me because I love my city. Take care of yourself.

Thank you. I suppose Denmark rarely makes the American news *smiles*. Luckily no one has been seriously hurt so far. Only material damage really. The police have been acting very professional - but they are bloody scary when you suddenly see 200 battle dressed policemen facing you when you're trying to get home. However, just as 9/11 has made America take a step right, I fear we will see many Danes being less open minded about those who are different as a result off the riots.

I am so very sorry to hear of your distress, my dear. I've never been in the middle of civil unrest and I cannot imagine how very frightening it must be. I sincerely hope that your city comes out of it better than it now seems it might. My thoughts are with you.

Thank you! After three night of chaos last night was quiet, so I hope the worst is over. I pray things will turn out well but there is this zeitgeist of intolerance that I find really depressing - not that the answer is to burn cars or attack the city or anything.... How is the writing these days?
