Preparations and Travel Thoughts

Jan 13, 2008 02:24

So, I head back to Boston in only three days...and onto Europe in four and a half. In these last few weeks the 17th has creeped up on me so fast. I've been doing a lot of preparations lately: visited five different doctors, bought clothes, bought travel supplies (passport case, backpack, sleep sheet, the works...), picked up plenty of Euros. But ( Read more... )

I don't have any advice since I've never left the country...but I hope you have fun and that nothing gets stolen or anything unpleasant like that.

Totally envious of you being so close to Germany. And all the other places you're going.

Have fun!

Okay, I totally moved overseas for a year with only one suitcase and one backpack...but I've accumulated a lot of stuff and I have no idea how I'm going to get it all back ( ... )

Only one suitcase for an entire year?! My goodness. And I'm gonna have enough trouble not completely filling up my two suitcases...

Yes, I definitely made sure to buy a nice little pouch that will hold my passport and money to go around my neck. It's even a nude colour so it won't show through my clothes. :)

Oh, that's the other thing--I found a collapsible duffel bag for like $10 at Walmart (in August) that doesn't take up much room and then you have an extra suitcase to bring stuff home if you need it. I was really excited by this find. You might want to think about it.

Two weeks in London, end of April, and beginning of May? Well it should be nice weather then and you cannot miss a trip to the English seaside - Brighton is the obvious place from London as it's quick to get to and a good daytripper destination ( ... )

Thanks for all the suggestion. That should definitely give me some ideas on how to keep busy during my stay. :)

Wow... that's rather an extensive list of countries to visit. I'm jealous. :P There are rules about taking liquid onto planes, I don't understand them and just don't take any. Trains are completely fine, they wont check you at all in Britain and I presume in Europe. Airport security is probably different in othr countries, but I think it will be strictest in Britain because more people hate us.

Good quality padlocks are a good idea.

The phone idea is probably also not going to be cheap... I'm pretty sure it will cost a huge amount to call outside of the Netherlands. But you can get very cheap pay-as-you-go sim cards (50p) in the UK at least, so it may be easier to take an old phone and buy new sim cards in each country you stay in for a significant amount of time (maybe just Nethrlands and UK).

If you're in Oxford for a few days, you're welcome to use the laundry... hehe. :P

Well, I really don't know how much the phone thing is going to cost...I'll have to look into it. The guy in charge of my program said that buying a new phone is cheaper than buying all this stuff for your own phone so that it will function overseas. If it's really expensive I might not bother, but I really would rather have a phone...partly for safety reasons.

And I just might have to take you up on your laundry offer. :P
