Hurray for Tattoos!

Saturday was my sister's bridal shower. As the Maid of Honor, I was the hostess. The theme was set as the Italian Countryside and we had the shower outdoors so we decorated our patio all nice. The food was good and the games were fun, even though we ran out of time to play them all. My sister got some really nice presents and I think she's quite ( Read more... )

How big is your tatoo?

Also, what do you look for in a tattoo parlour of "good repute" as it were?

It does a lot...and it probably means I'll be looking for something not in my town, which also helps a lot. :)

I'm scared to death of getting a disease or something.

Yes, cleanliness is essential. But as long as you do find a parlour that's clean and the backrooms sterile, and the artists are certified, I wouldn't worry.

Good luck on finding a place. Have you decided on what you want?

I still laugh inside when I see this - it isn't something we do here or didn't - and when I lived in Paris I was friends with our choir director and at a loose end I and another firend went shopping with her. I awas absolutely baffled when she said her brother was getting married back in the states and she had to get him a present and that she had to get him something for hte shower. ANd I just thought - that will be the most boring present ever - why do you have to get him something for hte shower. Not much scope - just a curtain or maybe one of those chrome racks.... towels...soap

My bafflement was greater when she said something about buying teacloths. Then it was explained.... and we went to a lot of nice shops to look for candlesticks which were the proper present....

And I though a baby shower was some american alternative to a baby bath.... but then here it is regarded as tempting fate to get presents for babies before they are safely arrived ..

Heh...well, after reading a lot on showers, I learned the gifts can very from lingerie, to spa treatment, to kitchen stuff. My sister didn't really care, but in the invitations, we mentioned where she and her fiance are registered and most people gave gifts from that registry. Not having a real job yet, the couple aren't that well off and don't have a lot of nice typical house items, so she was quite excited to get such gifts.

But I don't think the shower's about the gifts; instead I think it's about honoring and supporting the bride before her big day. We had a decent turn-out and my sister keeps telling me how much fun she had, which makes me happy. :)

Oh yes, we want pictures!

And I seriously want to get a rose tattooed somewhere on my body. I have a friend who's talking about getting some Chinese (or was it Japanese?) script tattooed on her lower back... maybe we'll gain some courage if we go get them together, lol.

I say if you know what you want, then go for it. Whatever you do, make sure you don't get it somewhere that will seriously sag as you get older. In my opinion, the upper back, shoulder, foot, or ankle are the best locations. But the decision is totally yours. :)

And don't be too nervous...it's really not that bad. Yes, it does hurt (I won't lie), but as long as you're not absolutely terrified of needles the pain is very bearable. And depending on the tattoo, it shouldn't take long. My took a little longer because of the design, but when I saw my suitemate get her's done (which were basic star outlines), it only took about five minutes.
