I read Naked Empire last year, which is number 8 in the series (I think). My mum had got it for me for christmas, not realising it was part of a series. And, in fairness, it stood alone quite well, as I didn't realise it was part of a series til I had almost finished it. :P

So, I let it be known that if the first one was gotten for me, I'd not be unhappy with the choice.

I plan to read the next few and see how they go. His politics (between the two books I've read) don't seem all that right-wing to me, but perhaps I've not run into the soap box yet.

I wouldn't say 'caters to'.... that's a very small section right at the end of the book.

Even so, it's (much) more extreme than 'submissive'.

Well, was it a Friday in Princeton? Thursday night is major party night at Princeton, because nobody schedules their classes for Friday. They even run classes that should be MWF on MWTh because of that.

I never did figure it out...

I must read that at some point. If only for nostalgic value.

Well, in colleges in Ireland (and maybe England too, who knows? And thus other places perhaps) Thursday is the major party night because everyone (read: large majority) goes home for the weekend on Friday :)

That's taken into account when scheduling Friday classes, rather than the lack of Friday classes precipitating it. Not that there is a lack of Friday classes at all, just that no lecturer with any sense is going to expect any of the students to be capable of anything before lunch, and most departments will try not to schedule 9am lectures :)

People tend not to go homer on weekends unless they're really local in the States. Just like the vast majority live on campus. And don't froget, you choose your own courses in the States; you're not told what to take. The saying goes that as a fresher you choose what sounds good; in sophomore year you choose by who teaches the course; in junior year you choose by when it meets...

To answer a post you made like almost two freaking years ago....... :P

I'm finding that to be very true for me.

As a 1st year, I picked what I had to, bolstered by 'stuff' that seemed vaguely interesting.

Going into my 2nd year, while I have figured out a few general interests, I'm picking and choosing based almost wholly on whether or not I've had the prof before. :P
