i think i get what you are trying to do, but i hope that this comes from you and not from someone else trying to change the way that you speak and communicate. i think that you mentioned this was brought to your attention which makes me think that it came from the outside. not that it is any of my beeswax, but other people do not have the right to expect you to speak and communicate in any particular way. no one needs to ask you to change your language habits or to police what you say ( ... )

Frankly, I'm with bookgrrrl2006. The trailing off thing is something to work on. Maybe even the generalizations about 'always' and 'never', but the rest of it? No one is EVER perfect. :) You're going to make yourself so paranoid about what you're saying that you won't say anything!

You said, "If I am even slightly unsure about something - or if I feel as if I might be correcting someone - I tend to phrase it as a question." What's wrong with that? I don't see where that disempowering to you. Because it might make you seem absent-minded? I see that as putting it back on the other person to be more responsible for what they are saying now and for what they have said in the past. (Thinking of the second example you gave about work, not the Andrew example.) What else are you going to do? It's a matter of clarification. I think it's more rude to say, "You told me Tuesday you'd decided not to send me an email." That seems more confrontational and more... accusatory.
