A Mule in the Courtyard and a Tragedy on the Road

I finally found my ESB cord and was going to post a pic spam post of chickens, etc., but something happened last night to change it. Starting at about 10:30PM Andrew and I heard the horses, mule, and donkey next door making as much noise as humanly (equinely?) possible. We also heard coyotes, so we assumed that they were just alarming because of ( Read more... )

oh, that's so horribly sad. i do hope the man who caused it steps up and does the right thing. everyone can make a mistake, and yes, it's an accident, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be responsible for the damage done. he can't bring the horse back, but he should minimize at least the out-of-pocket expenses for the owners, since he can't do anything about the trauma or emotional duress.

Exactly!

Another really hard thing is the relative value of the animal. I mean, horses are not only expensive to buy and maintain, but they have truly distinct personalities. They may be herd animals, but they are each incredibly unique spiritually and psychologically. If a neighbor's dog killed some of my chickens I'd be angry, but not nearly as hurt as if I lost a dog or a cat or a horse. Yes, they'd still have to compensate me for it, but the trauma and emotional duress would be much less. Horses live a long time and losing a horse is like losing a family member. Not cool.

That is so sad that it's almost impossible to find the words. I'm very sorry for the loss. She was a beautiful horse, and it's a shame that she was lost because of someone's carelessness.

*hugs*

Oh god, that's terrible. She's such a pretty thing too. I feel just awful for the owner, I hope the guy does the right thing here.

We had to put down my old Dog. That was just awful and i didn't even have to so it myself. I can't imagine what that would have been like. This is where i'm so glad i'm a city girl. I could hack it out there i'd be a big blubbering (vegetarian) mess.

I'm sorry about Dog. I was a crying mess when we had to put down Tybalt (the greatest cat I've ever had.) It was really traumatic.
