In the first place, most of the time, black is just too bold for my coloring -- our coloring, really! You're so right about the browns and plums and grays. They invented flat, thin makeup brushes for a reason, right?
If I can fit it into a palette, I won't hesitate to use it as an eyeliner. I actually did a gorgeous pink face the other day using the same pencil as eyeliner and lip tint. We're talking vivid fuchsia, here. It was glorious. I need to do it again, because I looked like a doll.
And as for my eyelashes? Shoot, they're thick enough. :)
When I wear make up (which is rare) I always wear black. No particular reason why other than that's what I've always done and not been interesting in experimenting with other colors since I'm not prone to wear make up alot~
Black is my default. I like to make my eyes look very intense when I do makeup and black seems to make my eyes look their most exotic. I don't really aim for natural, rather I do almost a cat eye (without the wings), even for day. My eyes are so large that I don't think it looks over the top, personally. I did go through a phase where I did a dark plum, which was nice too, but didn't have the same mmmph.
I think lighter colors often suit blondes or people with light colored eyes. Black does look severe on some people.
