Yay for the pimping! If I can find a computer programmer to create a sign-up form for me that can help me match, I'll actually do it again next year. But I don't have $500 this year to pay someone, so it's back to doing it by hand. Ah well.

Duncan MacLeod verbally berating Adam Monroe on his crap swordplay.
I don't even know who Duncan is, and I want to read this. :-)

I wish you watched Misfits! It's like Heroes, but British and 100x better (once you get to the third ep). I feel like you would write amazing crossovers about it. It's got all the fun everyday elements of Heroes, where they're just young people going about their lives who happen to have superpowers. No saving the world or anything like that. And they have HILARIOUS (yet violent) adventures. It's like a dark comedy, with powers. There are only 13 episodes total.

If I can find a computer programmer to create a sign-up form for me that can help me match, I'll actually do it again next year. Oh really? I'm not a computer programmer (clearly), nor do I have $500, but would some sort of an online form or survey be at all helpful to you? Cuz I can make forms and surveys which can export stuff in Excel form. It's not really an algorithm which will help match, but at least then things might be sortable by fandom and such without extra data entry. So, perhaps not what you're looking for.

I don't even know who Duncan is, and I want to read this.
Duncan MacLeod is the guy from Highlander who looks really hot with a sword. For the first x-over exchange, I actually wrote about 1000 words of a Highlander/Heroes crossover (that did involve Adam and Duncan banter!) before I abandoned it in despair and wrote Star Trek instead. But yeah, Adam would be just the delightful dose of snark that universe needs.

It's like a dark comedy, with powers.
Where can I find this?!

Misfits is all on Hulu!!! http://www.hulu.com/misfits Please fall deeply madly in love with Simon with me (he is so hot I can't even breathe). Just to warn you that the first two episodes are extremely Nathan heavy, and if you find him insufferable (as a lot of people do at first), just keep trucking, because the show solidifies as an ensemble show in episode 3 (plus, he starts to grow on you). ALSO, there is an extremely unfortunate and uncomfortable power with a lot of seriously awful implications. But please also don't be turned off by it, because after episode 3, it just... stops being brought up in that way. Thank god.

Awww, now I want to read that story. I want to read ALL Adam Monroe stories.

Please tell me more about automatic data entry that lets me sort by fandom. Because um, that would be AMAZING. I end up spending hours and hours inputting data into excel in this binary way so that I can use filters to find out who can write for whom and who can get from whom.

Hm... I may have to explore this Misfits thing...

Okay. Data entry. There are two tools I know about that might work for your purposes.

For both of these, you have the option of lots of different kinds of questions, like choosing from a list, free text entry, multiple choice, etc.

1. Google Forms. My understanding is that it automatically enters stuff from the forms into a spreadsheet. You can also embed it on a webpage (or, presumably, in LJ). Extra bonus: it's free.

2. Survey Monkey. You can create a survey, which can act like a form to collect data, and post the link or send it to whoever you like. They also have really great tutorials and tech support (not that Google doesn't). It seems like they have more results analysis options that Google forms (for example, filtering and cross-tabbing responses). However, I think to download the results as a spreadsheet, you need the paid account. You can buy by the month, but it's $25, so that's not free ( ... )
