Reason lost on the media

Oct 31, 2010 20:53

I'm back from the March for Sanity.  If you hear estimates of 250,000 at the rally this past Saturday don't believe them.  There were WAY more then that.  Many folks couldn't get to the grass and so retreated as far away as H street.  The Metro was insanely crowded (never in my life have I been so packed on a train).  Cell phones weren't working (which proved to be a problem when our party of 5 were separated into 3 groups by the crush of people).  Despite the awe inspiring crowds and discomfort I'm glad I went.

However, I'm horrified by the media coverage after.  If you didn't watch, please read Stewart's closing comments.  We live and work as people.  We don't refuse to work with co-workers because they don't share our exact ideology.  We make compromises and we get things done.  We should expect the same of our politicians.

I will post pictures later (tired now, long drive back) but I wanted to thank some folks:

Julie, thanks for putting us up (and putting up with us).  Marie, you are an awesome copilot.  Gretchen, thanks for the T-shirt! Geoff, thank you for getting Marie back to Baltimore... we stopped worrying if she was lost forever once we knew you were with her. Thank you to Julie's friends (whose names I've already forgotten) who let us use their house as a rest stop on the way. Todd and Gina, thank you from coming out for breakfast with us!  Mac and Morgan, thank you for sharing your sofas with us.  And, thank you to all those folks who drove Metro, set-up the rally, directed traffic, and in any way made it possible.
