A little over a week ago my brother had a very serious motorcycle accident. His body is very broken. The doctors at the Trauma Center put him into a medically-induced coma in order to stabilize him so that his heart and lungs could handle the strain of the needed orthopedic surgery (or surgeries). You're making a good choice and I'm so very sorry you have to keep making it.

The truth is, when disaster happens, so many people rush in with the first wave...and recede just as quickly.

As you said, your brother has a long, long road ahead of him and I am quite certain, in my heart and brain, your precious visiting time will be much more useful and welcome when others have stopped showing up with casseroles and get well cards, but he is still deep in the throes of re-learning his life.

You can and will be a good sister to him, and give him your time when he needs it most.

oh awfulness! I dread something like this happening. Your dad's advice was spot-on, however. Huge hugs to you. I wish a smooth and thorough recovery for your brother!!

Sending healing energy along for you to pass on. So difficult to be far away and yet your Dad is wise. Your phone support is the emotional support you can give to the front line family.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. ((hugs)) When my Mom went through what she did a few years ago it was devastating to not be able to be there and just hug her and know absolutely for myself that she was okay. It really is the hardest part of living so far away. Be well Geena.
