Did you know there is a sneaky ninja way to skip the Zakim/Lower Deck? Go in through Sullivan Square, get off the second hole in the rotary onto Rutherford through Charlestown, over the bridge by Converse, and BLAMMO you're at the intersection of The North End and The Rest of Boston, crossing Causeway St when you cross the bridge.

Figures, the limo driver would know the shortcuts. =P

The place I needed to go was like two or three blocks from South Station, so going in via the bridge/tunnels is probably the most direct route.

When you go in that way... When you get to Causeway St, if you go left you're in the North End. Go right, Boston Garden. Go straight, Valenti Way, which can take you to the Callahan Tunnel (bear left), Government Center (go right), and Fitzgerald Surface Rd/Purchase St if you go straight. You will want to take Surface/Purchase, as that will take you right into the South Station area.
