So both EVP and New Boss Writer have been out of the office this week. EVP is at some trade show or customer site or something and New Boss Writer flew out to California for MadCamp, the four day Flare training session that MadCap software holds once or twice a year. Along with the funky shoes and slashing, the shirt is the quintessential 16th century German article of clothing. If you don't have it, your kit just doesn't quite look right. And I think I've spent enough time in the "researching, procrastinating, and puzzling out how to do it" phase of this project. Time to shyte or get off the pot.

I just Googled "smocking". Now I see why it might take forty hours to do all that by hand! :\

My favorite is all the web sites that include complicated math for calculating how many dots/pleats per inch to gather X number of inches of fabric down to Y number of inches once it's smocked. I just can't see the average medieval haus frau doing all that math. They just eyeballed the damned thing and did it by hand. But all the folding and gather stitches before you can even start the embroidery takes time. The pleating machine cuts that down to a couple of minutes. =D
