Friday was my second to last summer early release. And since I’ll be taking a vacation day next Friday, technically it was my last early Friday. My original plan was to head down to IKEA. Busy bee!
I used to work with a woman who carried a copy of one of the _Outlander_ series books with her wherever she went. The poor thing was trapped in an abusive relationship by her awful husband, and she kept reading the series over and over to at least let her mind get away for a while. She was forever recommending the books to me, but I never did get to reading them. I've been borrowing e-books from the library on my Nook like a mad woman; perhaps when I'm done reading the three books I have out now, I shall start on those.

I do really enjoy the books, but they're not for everyone. Several of us recommended them to a friend a couple of years ago, but she found some of the incidents in the book triggering. There's lots of sex and men in kilts and sex, but there's also a fairly brutal torture scene, some serious Machiavellian manipulations by various characters, and of course our heroes are always in and out of trouble (gotta keep that dramatic tension up). And sometimes I do get a wee bit tired of the trope that two characters in a romance have to misunderstand each other all the time. But at least in this book they have a valid excuse (different cultures).

Overall, I do love the books. But not everyone does.

I'll take out the first book and see if I can get a feel for it. Thanks for the info!
