So back on September 13th I went to the doctor about my back. Basically she said I was doing everything right (massage, trying to stretch more, not doing any heavy lifting). I’d taken anti-inflammatories for a bit, but mostly only when the pain got bad. She wanted me to try them on a regular basis and gave me a prescription for 800mg ibuprofen

I'm not a person who likes to take drugs. But since ibuprofen is an anti-inflamatory, it's not just a pain reliever but can help take pressure off the pain area so it can heal.
I think you're right on target about the stretching too. If you can, Google leg anatomy and try exercises to stretch all the muscles all the way around your legs and hips. It's sometimes the tiny little ones that are the most tight because we all basically sit for a living.
