I originally had zero plans to see Pacific Rim. It’s about giant robots punching giant monsters. Two movie tropes that I have never really been able to generate any interest in. So I didn’t worry about reading stuff that I thought was going to be spoilers, because I had NO intention of seeing this movie. But after about a solid month of

Yeah, that was my problem with it. It was a visually interesting movie. But, that wasn't enough for me.
That young actress was clearly the most talented person in the movie...
My thought would be that the Russian woman is a better example because no one questions her. She's there. She does the job. No one makes her prove she should be there or anything else.
She's just one of the pilots.
That's how it should be.

As for Raleigh saving Mako (and Mako therefore out of the action for the last bit), I didn't have a problem with it. Both characters got the thing they needed most. Mako needed revenge for her family, and since she was the one who designed and retrofitted the big ol' sword, and then thought to use it, she earned every bit of it. (I think they must've said something about it? Because I was aware of it. Certainly she was the one who knew that the sword was there, and thought of using it.) Raleigh needed to save his co-pilot, and he did... and at a point where they were just basically floating and waiting to get to the right spot anyway, which didn't require two of them. (From what I remember, anyway. Keep in mind that I've only seen it once, and I've slept and traveled and seen family annnnnddd... other stuff in the meantime.)
