I ran across this picture before I read the book, and I am one of those people who associate visuals (e.g. movies) with the characters in the books, should I read them after being exposed to the visuals. Exempli Gratia: Richard Harris is indelibly etched into my brain as Dumbledore, Sam Neill as Alan Grant, and Sean Connery as James Bond.

And now, RDA is Vimes.

Here's her comment: For a long time, I thought it was Bruce Willis who I pictured in my head when I concentrated hard on Vimes, and that didn't feel right ... then I realized it was actually Richard Dean Anderson (known to me via Stargate SG-1, the show I now call Vimes in Space) and suddenly all the pieces fell into place.
