- Remains of the Day was a terrific book, where a man narrates the 200-page realization that he's wasted his life -- like a quieter About Schmidt. Salman Rushdie said it was cruel on the back cover, but I thought it was completely compassionate.

- I am undecided on After the Wedding. I am a sucker for melodrama, but the movie's international ( Read more... )

the largest music folder on my computer is probably the Brian Jonestown Massacre one. and I don't even remember what they sound like.

+ you've reminded me of the existence of a documentary that I really wanted to see following some drive-by imdb link jumping AND I CAN'T FOR THE LIFE OF ME REMEMBER ANY DETAILS AT ALL AT ALL.

(because where's the eraserhead?)

They play music for people on drugs, or else I guess for people who want to simulate being on drugs. Unfortunately for me, they play it in a lot of .ogg files.

+ Was it about amputees? Or crevices?

(It's down there somewhere. Let me take another look.)

but ogg means it's open which means you should be able to get players that play oggs by open means

unfortunate for your simulation of being on drugs? I wonder if one day I'll have enough cred to say Oh I know a guy

(and if by cred you mean We can't be friends any more because you go on too many acid trips)

Remains of the Day was so good. So good in fact that i'm not sure why its not in any of my "favorite books" lists. Butler was such an odd but perfect profession for the kind of story it told. Have you seen the film adaptation yet? It's not as good. Except the last half hour which is maybe a bit better. But i'm a sucker for goodbye scenes with rain involved. Or maybe just Casablanca.

I am glad to hear that DiG! was great. I think my easy answer is that the Dandy Warhols suck.

Casablanca was better at making up his mind. The Jonestowns don't even think they suck. Your easy answer opens a whole other bowl of questions.

I'm a lukewarm fan of BJM. Their attitude only makes me dislike them as people, not their music (still i know theres an example out there somewhere destined to prove me wrong.) Dandy Warhols on the other hand don't even have music to fall back on. Maybe they should get Scarlett Johannson to sing a few songs.

Also, Eraserhead is a hard movie to sit still through, so congrats. I think i had to get up for snacks like 10 times. I'm amazed you weren't that freaked out though.

How have you read up on all this and still not seen the movie?

I had the two worst monsters spoiled by the DVD packaging. So it was a little easier after that. The first half hour still kills me.

Bonus fact: Dig! is the only movie I've ever torrented.
