So my dear and brilliant friend dress_myself_up  wrote a very excellent post partially inspired by our earlier conversation about fans and love and our painful affect studies course. Therein she rightfully calls me out on my inability to stay on topic, and says many other excellent things. Y'all should read it before you read this, which is essentially a response

I'm glad you called me out on the "love isn't really just pleasure" thing because it is totally valid. And this thing that happens in class where:

ME: Let's talk about positive affect! I am the youngest and the most innocent and the only doing freaking fan studies so I am obligated to say the stupid-sounding thing but this is so damn depressing and does it have to be?
EVERYONE ELSE: Let's talk about love, baby!

Is actually probably not the best approach. Perhaps we should start with a simpler positive affect...joy, excitement, contentment, zany, cute, interesting?
