James Tiberius Kirk has never been this surprised in his life. Partly because he's never been properly proposed to, and partly because the man proposing to him his Christopher Pike, the no-shit-taking Admiral who once dared him to join Starfleet.
"Do I have to dare you?" Chris asks. "I will, you know."
Jim shakes his head almost violently. "No, no daring, no. Sure. Marry. I. You."
Chris gets up off one knee. "No, not like that. Marry. We."
Jim is pretty sure he's just been insulted, but, when Chris kisses him and slips the gold band on his hand, he can't really be fucked to care.

That is just adorable! I love how you have spot-on glimpses of both their characters in such a short piece. And the backstory! And the affection! And just a glimpse of competitiveness between them. It's perfect. And a wonderful match for the icon. (And I thought I'd deleted that comment because I put it on the wrong place.)
