Jared and Jensen had decided to get married on a whim, but when it comes to actually planning it, turns out both of them hate most things about traditional marriages. They're corny and tacky, and Jensen would rather shoot himself than say some fluffy vows in front of his family and friends. So, they set out to create a wedding that is truly theirs (in a non-tacky way).

Jared and Jensen had always believed they didn't need the state's or anyone else's confirmation of their relationship and love. That way lay picket fence houses and 2.5 kids, and that just wasn't their style. However, for insurance reasons, it turns out it actually would make a lot of sense for them to get married. At first they just want to get it over with as quickly and painlessly as possible, but then slowly warm up to the idea.
