So, meningitis scare at UPenn, among the frats/sororities and...the fencing team. Interesting combination there, guys. But we fenced them last weekend, which means shaking hands with everyone on the team, which means we're at a slight risk ( Read more... )

Uhh...does your neck hurt? Can you move your neck around? If your neck is stiff, GO TO THE HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY.

Also? You should have someone constantly checking in on you. If you develop meningitis and you're asleep...not good.

No, my neck is fine (except a little in the front, but that's normal swollen lymph nodes and not a buildup of spinal fluid) - I should've mentioned that. That's really the big reason why I'm not really worried.

I'll try to find someone to check on me. Thanks for the advice!

Okay so...I suddenly felt extremely worried about you, since today, I was listening to a lecture on meningitis, and the professor said that only 50% of cases get a stiff neck. And I was suddenly like, OH NO! bredalot!! I couldn't remember off of the top of my head whether you had posted anything after you posted this, so I immediately wanted to go run to a computer lab to find out whether you are still alive. God, meningitis is so scary. Someone's son had died only a day after he got meningitis symptoms...he developed the rash (and basically, developing the rash doesn't help, because that just means you have about 3 hours to live), did not have a stiff neck, and died one day later.

Sooo...anyway, glad to know you didn't have meningitis :D

Aww, you're sweet to think of me!

But yes, I am VERY glad it wasn't meningitis. :D Especially as I'd be dead by now. Scary disease, that. Fortunately, the fever disappeared a few hours later and left me with no voice and a bad cough for the next week, something to which I am entirely accustomed and doesn't scare me at all!

Oh gosh, I'd be freaking out too. You should go see a doctor, just to be safe.

When I was in school, a girl in my class had it. Started out as cold she got while on a ski trip in France. Poor girl didn't survive. Not to freak you out or anything! But yeah, please get yourself checked out by a doctor. :/

Thanks, but now I'm pretty much fine. I think all those crazy symptoms yesterday were just side effects from the pill - I'm back to normal cold symptoms now. But if my neck gets stiff, I promise I'll go to the doctor. :D
