I came to your LJ through your fic (and I remember you replying to me once in 206_bones =P) and saw this entry, so I hope you don't mind me commenting :)
ITA agree with you on how Booth feels about achievement. I think he does want the best academic possibility for Parker, but in the end he thinks there are more things that make a good individual than a good academic background. And the private school in this case appealed to him because it has an honor code, but I do think one of the bigger roadblocks is the tuition money (I actually did a double take at that because it is more expensive than my college tuition...)
I really felt in this episode that Booth was perhaps trying to make an environment for his son that his father didn't give him.
And the Max/Booth conversation was priceless. Just because I think it is like stuck between a rock and a hard place for Booth, because either yes or no might possibly result in body damage on his part if he's not careful...
You've got a good point about the honor code. I think, too, that Booth sometimes feels inadequate around the Squint Squad, and he doesn't want Parker to feel that. But yeah, private schools are expensive. (I had an idealistic view of them when I was in middle school, and when I asked why I couldn't go to one - preferably a boarding school - my parents basically said, "Well, we can pay for that, or we can pay for college." Heh. I chose college.)
This episode takes on a whole new context after The Con Man in the Meth Lab, doesn't it? Nice organisation there, writers!
It's interesting how he was almost specifically talking about science academic enrichment, and on some level it shows how far he has come with the squints (of course he still makes fun of them =P) and while he still trust his gut and instinct, I feel like he respect science a lot more, not only as a tool, but something that Parker might have a future with.
(And watch Parker end up Hodgin 2.0 or something =D)
And the writers certainly put a nice spin on the previous episodes (and what's nice about it is that it makes sense even when this episode is supposed to be before the Con Man)
And yeah, private schools are expensive. I'm lucky that I went to a relatively good public school and California has 8 relatively inexpensive UCs.

...just like The X-Files shouldn't have titled a season nine episode "Jump the Shark"?

(Also: yes, totally. I still can't figure out why they did that. At least this one makes sense literally.)
