This was my childhood, people

Ahh, Deathly Hallows. I finished it two days ago, after reading fervently until 5 in the morning and then all the next day, and now (when I can get it - my sister's reading it now) I still grab it up whenever possible, hug it, and read random selections. I really need to reread it, and sort everything out in my head ( Read more... )

How did George respond to the death of his twin?

This, and McGonagall, Luna, Hagrid...my questions exactly. Those were my objections to the epilogue, not the names (though they were a bit overboard in places) nor the...happiness, of it. Just...I wanted to know about everyone else.

I'm still in denial about the fact that Fred is dead and the fact that the HP series is over, and I'm therefore refusing to really put down many of my thoughts about the book. It's probably some kind of silly phobia I have, but I'm afraid that will help wear the shine off for me. :[

Gah. It's depressing. I want another one! :/

The only fanart comms I can recommend are fairly well-known I think: corkart and seviet. I do love them both though.

As for icons, I can't really recommend my HP ones yet (I haven't made enough good ones IMHO), but how about these?More rambling re: Fred...I think that was the thing that made me the most sad in the entire book. My thoery has always been that if JKR killed a twin, it would be to prove that they weren't just light 'n fluffy ( ... )

I'd never seen corkart before, so thanks! Lovely stuff.

I want another one too! It doesn't seem like it can possibly be over. Honestly, this was a literary phenomenon the likes of which have never been seen before (because, even though authors used to serialize their works in newspapers and stuff (like Sherlock Holmes), I doubt the fans were insane enough to dress up like the characters. Also, those were closer together in time), and it's going to leave a generation lost in its wake. Luckily, we all have each other. :D

Great, great review! But why does no one (and I mean, out of all of the reviews I've read from my flist) talk about Chapter 34? I was hysterically crying through chapter 34, because I honestly thought Harry was going to die, and that would be the end of that. It was just a perfectly constructed chapter: Harry says, "I am about to die" to open the Snitch, and then seeing the shadows of Lupin, his parents, and Sirius, and him saying to Lupin especially, "I did not want any of you to die," and then asking them does it hurt to die? God, my heart was BREAKING for Harry.

No icons to recommend, but I am working on creating a post-Deathly Hallows elite fanfic archive. I'm still working on it, and the progress is very slow, because I can't really find GOOD stories. I find a lot of crappy or mediocre stories, but not many GOOD stories.

You know what, you're right. This was really just written off the top of my head, as I thought of things, and for some reason that chapter wasn't one of the things that appeared. But it was an incredibly powerful chapter. I might have to write something on that whole sequence of events later on.

I think a lot of the good stuff will come later. It's going to take a while, especially the chaptered ones (though I generally prefer one-shots). But I'd love to see that, when you've got something to go on. And might I recommend Lirazel, who hasn't written much post-DH yet, but is inevitably brilliant? I've got a whole bunch of authors on ff.net that I love, but she always stands out.

Thanks for your author recommendation! I've just been browsing Portkey.org and quidditchpitch.org and some other sites, and really, good stuff is really hard to come by. I'll definitely check out Lirazel!

Do you have your favorite authors on ff.net favorited somewhere? I would really love to get a list of your favorite authors to check out their work, if it's not too much work for you.

They should be here, but that might just bring you to my author profile. But if you click on Favorite Authors, there's a list of 19 great authors. :D

how Dementors "guard the Wizard prison, Azkaban" and Petunia's "I heard that dreadful boy telling her about them" - imagine what would've happened if, after Harry yelled, "If you mean my father, just say so!", Petunia had told him who it really was. That would've changed everything, wouldn't it?)

O_____________O

OH MY GOD I MISSED THAT.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

*bursts into tears at how...how...wow that little hint is. Wow.*

Er, sorry, you commented on my journal, I wandered over to peek at yours and saw a DH reaction post, and I just can't resist those, so...

And Ron/Hermione--ever since I first read PoA I was terrified about how they would get together, because it was going to be from Harry's POV and that just wasn't going to be satisfying AT ALL...and then that kiss. Swept away all my fears and filled me with ridiculous joy.

Aw man. Must...reread...

THIS is why JKR is a genius. All those little bitty things? Aren't little bitty AT ALL. I love it. And I really only caught that because it was the exact same phrase and I'd just reread OotP shortly before, so it really stood out to me.

(Also, thanks for commenting on that! I'm glad someone noticed. :D )

People can complain all they want about JKR's handling of romance, but when you get to Ron and Hermione, all those arguments break down. She handled that perfectly, the whole way through.
