Oscar Nods!!! LOL

Oscar Nominations Thoughts!
LOL, well at least the race is not boring anymore. I'm overall pretty happy with all the nominations; nothing I really dislike got nominated and there were some really AMAZING surprises (Javier! Dogtooth! Exit through the Gift Shop!). Suck about Nolan though. Oh well, I guess he'll just have to make a Holocaust movie or ( Read more... )

Oh well, I guess he'll just have to make a Holocaust movie or something.

I may have just legit spit out my drink at that. Because it's so true. I can't say I'm entirely surprised he got snubbed AGAIN but that doesn't mean I'm any less angry about it, especially when Cameron got the nod last year.

I'm trying to take consolation in The King's Speech and True Grit leading with nods (except for editing because...what?) though and it's working slightly. SIGH.

LOL, sometimes it takes a while for a new-ish director to be taken seriously. Spielberg had that problem in his early career (but hey, then he started making Holocaust movies!). James Cameron is an insider though, and no matter how much of a whiny douchebag he is and how stupid his movies are, he has enough "respect" to get in.

The King's Speech did really well today! I have to say, I'm a little glad TG didn't get an editing nom cause I had issues with it. Especially during that long ride sequence, they went a little fade-out happy. I mean, I was just starting to appreciate the cinematography and they fade out again.

What is it them always shuffling younger actors into the supporting categories? I just can't fathom how they managed to justify that. I can't decide if that's worse than a snub or not. As you pointed out, that's definitely a risk for being worse for the other actresses rightfully in that category.

Supporting is always easier to get into, and there does tend to be an age bias in the lead categories (Best Actress skews to 20-30s, Best Actor skews 40-50s). But there is just no argument to be made about Steinfeld. She's as lead as Natalie Portman.

As an Andrew stan I'm dissapointed he didn't get nominated but can't complain too much really. He's young and he's got a bright future. I love pretty much everyone who got nominated for that category anyways (well, I didn't see Ruffalo's performance but I like him and I adore Renner and I'm happy he got a nomination again because he's the only thing worthy of a nom in The Town imo).

Damn the Academy really hates Nolan. I expected him to get nominated for at least Best Director and nada.

I agree, Andrew will do just fine and doesn't really need this. It's his first high profile Hollywood role, so he was probably the easiest person to snub as opposed to other people in the category who have worked in the industry for a long time. I love all the nominees though, in pretty much every acting category, so I'm happy with these. Especially since they chose some good underdogs (Jacki Weaver) over the main contenders (Mila Kunis).

LOL, poor Nolan. He pretty much single-handedly caused the Academy's rule change to 10 nominees, yet he still can't get a Best Director nod.

I'm suddenly freaking out about the editing snub even more than I was freaking out about the directing snub earlier.
IF INCEPTION DOESN'T HAVE AMAZING EDITING THEN GODDAMN IT.

I'm all "OMG YES" about Javier. For one, it's a really good role but I completely didn't expect him to get a nomination. Forgot about the Julia factor!

I'm really happy about The King's Speech getting a lot of well-deserved attention (minus the editing nom, though...)

That's one of the most puzzling snubs. I can almost understand the Nolan snub; the directors are a very small group and have certain favorites. But I would think that the editor's branch would recognize good editing, regardless of whether they liked the film or not.

Julia and Sean Penn both campaigned like crazy for Javier. Obviously it paid off!

Ha ha Nolan will have to do that Holocaust movie ! Terrible Terrible snub this! Even the non-Inception fans around are shocked at this and the lack of the editing nomination is the worst!

Who would have thought Alice in Wonderland would managed 3 noms? lol

I think Black Swan got the noms it deserved .

Will take me some time to get over the Garfield/Nolan snubs though... *sniff*

Hey, it worked for Spielberg. He got a lot of snubs in his early career as well, but then started making Oscar bait movies and now look where he is! lol.

Alice in Wonderland was always going to do well in the techs; I'm just glad it didn't get any more. I thought it was going to get Make-up too.
