I loved Exit Through the Gift Shop. That and Fish Tank were my favorites though I technically saw Fish Tank in late 2009.

tbh, i was initially only interested in exit through the gift shop cause of all the controversy about if it was fake but i personally think if it was all an act, it's an even better movie! same deal with catfish.

Yeah I genuinely don't know quite what to think of EatGS but Catfish seems fake to me. So much doesn't seem right and now they are getting lawsuits.

I agree, Catfish totally seemed fake. idk, it's like, who would be that gullible? lol.

Excellent, excellent list, and I love the spams. :D I have to see several more things before I can make my list, but you made some great choices. Basically all of mine are on this list somewhere, I expect.

Thank you! I still have quite a few movies to see as well, but I don't think I'll get around to some of them until February at least so I decided to just make this list now.

besides How To Train Your Dragon which I think is grossly overrated, along with Despicable Me, i enjoyed your list! I still have to see True Grit, The King's Speech and 127 Hours, but otherwise I think I pretty much have my list done up. I'm done with the graphics but I'm holding out for screeners just in case.

i ranked my list. it was easy at the top but so difficult toward the middle and end. and i was a little bias with some films (Tangled, Inception, Kick-Ass)

idk, i found HTTYD, just like Tangled, to be such a nice surprise cause the trailers made them look so stupid/pedestrian, and the visuals were pretty. i didn't really love despicable me either but i don't think that film was particularly ambitious; it basically accomplished its goal. although it's a little weird to me that despicable me has made like $250 million at the box office while tangled probably will only get to like $180 million on a far bigger budget. i expected better legs for it, but it just hasn't performed like HTTYD did with its crazy long run.

i couldn't really rank things easily this year. last year, there were a few films that i felt were instant all-time favorites, while this year, it's more like overall good stuff but i don't know if any will end up on my all-time.

i guess it's just me... Have you watched I Am Love? I thought it was really overrated too, besides the visuals/style/score of the film and Tilda, the entire film had nothing much going for it.

that's a pity! i really wanted it to make back its budget!

for my top films i picked the ones that were likely to be my all-time favorites and left the really-good-ones-but-not-sure-if-all-time for the honorable mentions, including some films i thought were well-made but didn't fully connect with.

I felt the same way about I Am Love as I did last year about Julia - amazing Tilda Swinton performance in a not so great movie. I'm not really sure why it's winning some of these foreign movie awards, there definitely were way better ones.

I think it will internationally, but i don't think a film can be considered a "hit" unless the worldwide gross at least doubles its budget cause of advertising costs, etc. but i guess it lost its 3D screens last week because of Tron and Yogi Bear.

I'm not sure which ones will end up on my all-time list here. The only one that I'm almost 100% positive will is True Grit (but even still, I already have like 3 westerns on my favorites lol) and maybe Inception. I do need some time to settle though. Last year, I didn't think too much of The Hurt Locker when I first saw it in the summer, but eventually after rewatches, it's made my all-time favorites.

oooh, good list! some of these are on my must see list.

i'm looking forward to the girl with the dragon tattoo - when i read the book, i pictured daniel craig as the main character and then i find out he's playing him in the movie. perfect casting for me!

thanks!

daniel craig is good casting. i was a little unsure about rooney mara, but after seeing her in TSN, i think she's definitely up for it. i was just glad they didn't cast someone too famous even though every young actress was apparently fighting to get the role.

Great selection! Black Swan is one of my favorites as well (though, despite certain unmistakable cues, I’d hesitate to call it a horror film), and this post totally reminds me there are A TON I have yet to see!

Thanks! I do feel like there are horror elements in Black Swan (and it does borrow some of its campiness from the horror genre), although the main genre would be psychological thriller.
