Picspam: Kill Bill vs. Inglourious Basterds (i finally got some inspiration!)

Surprise, surprise. Another Inglourious Basterds picspam from me! This movie just gives me my inspiration so I figure I'd compare Tarantino's works in several random aspects. Enjoy!

I figure QT must be a Trekkie or something cause this isn't the only Star Trek reference in Kill Bill.

Both films heavily feature dialogue spoken in a foreign language. Kill Bill = Japanese. Inglourious Basterds = French and German. Also, there's a strong stylistic influence on QT's films. Kill Bill is inspired by Chinese Kung-Fu movies and Japanese Chanbara while Inglourious Basterds draws its inspiration from Spaghetti Westerns. You can see these influences even in the way the film is introduced and the fonts used for the credits.

Both films are centered around revenge for a crime. In Kill Bill, The Bride's wedding is massacred by her former colleagues and boss and she spends 4 years in a coma (she was also pregnant at the time). In Basterds, Shosanna's family is killed by the Jew Hunter, Col. Landa, while she manages to escape.

Both films feature a pretty awesome team of ruthless and brutal killers. And the members have cool nicknames like 'Black Mamba' and 'Bear Jew'.

These are arguably my favorite scenes in each respective film, the 'preparation' scene for the big climax. In Kill Bill, Uma Thurman rides across Tokyo in a spiffy motorcycle that matches her outfit, following one of her targets, O-ren Ishii, as a jazzy version of 'Flight of the Bumblebee' plays in the background. In Basterds, Shosanna prepares for the big Nation's Pride premiere by dolling herself up to David Bowie's 'Cat People'.

As expected in a QT film, there's violence and blood. A lot of it.

Robert Richardson did the cinematography for both the Kill Bill movies and Basterds (and imo, he was horribly robbed of an Oscar for the latter). Kill Bill Vol. 1 is mostly an indoor film but there are many plays on colors, b&w, and shadows in the famous house of blue leaves sequence. The cinematography in Basterds is more natural and not as showy but no less spectacular.

And of course, the foot fetish. Diane Kruger claims she has nicer feet than Uma Thurman. You be the judge!
