Having pretty much volunteered her sons' house for the hosting of a dinner with a plan, Tara's spent most of the afternoon in the kitchen, fiddling with recipes, taste-testing and adjusting. Cassie's joining them, as is Jonathan - mostly because Tara's inner yentl really wants to see the two of them together. There had been discussion of meeting ( Read more... )

Arrivals - Bobby emo_popsicle May 29 2006, 06:40:53 UTC
Bobby managed to wrangle an early leave from Normal for the day without too many threats. Luckily Zoom needed the extra cash, so it wasn't as hard as it could have been.

As it is he finds himself back at the apartment as the sun is setting over Tropolis. the jingle of ketys in the door announce his presence. "Hey, Mom?" He calls, stepping into the apartment.

"Hey, Snowcone!" Tara calls from the kitchen. It means more to her than she'd be able to vocalise that the boys trust her enough to play in their kitchen without either one of them home, and now the apartment is filled with delicious, vaguely exotic smells.

"How was your day?"

"The usual," Bobby shrugged as he enetered the kitchen, having followed the sound of Tara's voice. "Cars, pedestrians, stray children." He perused the various foodstuffs, reaching for something that looked kinda tasty.

"Normal said we had to stop betting on who got the most hit points though."

"You get an extra two points if they're wearing a hat," Tara murmurs distractedly, as she stirs the pot on the stove. "I never worked out why, though. Maybe it only counts if the hat stays on after you knock them down?"

Not that anyone actually plays that game. It's just something you talk about, not something you do.

She turns in time to see Bobby's hand slip toward the Thai pumpkin stirfry, cooling on the counter, and brandishes the wooden spoon at him threateningly. "Fingers!"

Opening the cutlery drawer, she slides a spoon across the counter, rescuing her concoction from the stove a moment later. "Cream sauce," she explains. "Can't leave it unattended."

Food timed almost right, the last things are finished just as Bobby answers the door for Cassie, and Tara sets the table before calling everyone in.

"Okay, um... Bobby knows this already, but I'm going to be opening a restaurant, soon. Um, 'Travel By Mouth', it'll be. So this is kind of a trial run for that? And I handwavily found out where you all wanted to travel to," though she sneaks a grin at Cassie, who was a little pointed about the alien factor, "so that's the menu for tonight. Nepal to Thailand to France to Italy and back to Nepal."

The table holds a four course meal, with a placard at each plate labelled 'Menu' - though there are no choices on it. Just the description of what they'll be eating:

Entree: Nepal to Thailand. Spiced corn and black lentil patties with sweet chile sauce ( ... )

The food looked and smelled...complex. Lee was more your pizza and beer, steak and potatoes, soup and salad kind of girl. But she could at least appreciate the work Tara had put into the menu preparation, even if she'd have no clue whether the food was good, bad, or inedible.

"Damn, Tara. This is as impressive as your course notes." Wry, yes, but Tara knew she didn't pay compliments.

And the wide-eyed look she gave Scott just might've registered as: Help.

Bruce had seen Danvers in action at the Cube, and heard reports about her battle with the hell goddess during the Brookhaven riots. He'd heard from her students that she could be a hellbitch in her own right, and Emma certainly had had her fill of snark to share ( ... )

Yazoo's lover. Emma's ex. Dark-haired pretty face that Loz couldn't stand. Tara's son. Bobby's brother. Scott's friend. He'd been useful at the Cube. And eaten Easter dinner with Tim.

Complicated, but aside from Loz's dislike, the good outweighed the bad. Which in Lee world meant she'd be herself and let him figure out how to behave. He ought to be able to keep up, anyhow.

"Yazoo's smart that way." Her lips curled into a smirk. "Since he likes you, too, I guess we can skip the small talk and the death threats."
