Having pretty much volunteered her sons' house for the hosting of a dinner with a plan, Tara's spent most of the afternoon in the kitchen, fiddling with recipes, taste-testing and adjusting. Cassie's joining them, as is Jonathan - mostly because Tara's inner yentl really wants to see the two of them together. There had been discussion of meeting ( Read more... )

Dinner brambless May 29 2006, 07:24:56 UTC
Food timed almost right, the last things are finished just as Bobby answers the door for Cassie, and Tara sets the table before calling everyone in.

"Okay, um... Bobby knows this already, but I'm going to be opening a restaurant, soon. Um, 'Travel By Mouth', it'll be. So this is kind of a trial run for that? And I handwavily found out where you all wanted to travel to," though she sneaks a grin at Cassie, who was a little pointed about the alien factor, "so that's the menu for tonight. Nepal to Thailand to France to Italy and back to Nepal."

The table holds a four course meal, with a placard at each plate labelled 'Menu' - though there are no choices on it. Just the description of what they'll be eating:

Entree: Nepal to Thailand. Spiced corn and black lentil patties with sweet chile sauce ( ... )

The food looked and smelled...complex. Lee was more your pizza and beer, steak and potatoes, soup and salad kind of girl. But she could at least appreciate the work Tara had put into the menu preparation, even if she'd have no clue whether the food was good, bad, or inedible.

"Damn, Tara. This is as impressive as your course notes." Wry, yes, but Tara knew she didn't pay compliments.

And the wide-eyed look she gave Scott just might've registered as: Help.

Bruce had seen Danvers in action at the Cube, and heard reports about her battle with the hell goddess during the Brookhaven riots. He'd heard from her students that she could be a hellbitch in her own right, and Emma certainly had had her fill of snark to share ( ... )

Yazoo's lover. Emma's ex. Dark-haired pretty face that Loz couldn't stand. Tara's son. Bobby's brother. Scott's friend. He'd been useful at the Cube. And eaten Easter dinner with Tim.

Complicated, but aside from Loz's dislike, the good outweighed the bad. Which in Lee world meant she'd be herself and let him figure out how to behave. He ought to be able to keep up, anyhow.

"Yazoo's smart that way." Her lips curled into a smirk. "Since he likes you, too, I guess we can skip the small talk and the death threats."

"I usually save the death threats until after you've hurt someone I care about." He offered her the same benign smile he'd show to McKay when he got to snarking, especially since in this case, he strongly suspected she was covering her nerves.

"Since we seem to like many of the same people - Yazoo and Scott included - I think you're safe for the evening."

That took balls. She had to hand him that. No way he didn't know she could turn him inside out with her bare hands, but he was implicitly threatening her.

It wasn't a real threat. Just snark. But the fact he'd even say it raised her estimation of him a notch.

Also, she had no trouble understanding why Loz couldn't stand him. She'd have to make sure to tell her wolf that.

"Aww, jeez. That's a disappointment. Here I thought I'd get a chance to brush off my flyswatting skills." But she said it with something approaching a smile.

Scott was rather amused at the conversation between Lee and Bruce. But maybe he should step in to keep any real blood from being shed. "You know, you could always use the flyswatting skills later," he said turned towards Lee, so only she could hear him.

"Bruce, good to see you in your own body again."

Her boyscout stepped over and did his white knight thing. Normally it'd annoy her, but a) it was Scott, and b) she really did know better than to pick a fight with her host.

He offered her a handy out, and she took it with a smile that was just this side of inappropriately sultry for public. "Kinda hoping I'll be too busy later."

At the mention of the bodyswitching, she might, just might, have flushed faintly.

Bruce politely didn't hear Lee coming on to Scott, and equally politely ignored the pink in her cheeks. Although the latter was more for self-preservation. He had the distinct impression that this would be one of those occasions where curiosity killed the Bat cat.

"Good to see you out of hers back in yours, though I see you've made friends with your previous host."

"Well, when you know very intimate details about a person, you tend to want to know them better." Or want to fuck their brains out. Either way.

Bruce nodded, and smiled a knowing smile. Seriously. The UST with Kate was bad enough before this.

"Makes sense, sort of a variation on Stockholm Syndrome." He gave Lee and Scott both a wry smile.

Stockholm Syndrome? She turned bright blue eyes on Scott, wondering.

No. She shook her head. Scott had taken care of her body, and his body had sheltered her. Safety, gratitude, and profound affection. And the whole thing about fucking his brains out. With Loz. And then back in her own body...

"Sort of the opposite."

"Definitely the opposite," he grinned.

At Scott's grin, Lee felt the last of her snark melt away into a purring warmth. Damn it. How did he do that?

If they'd been alone, she'd have dragged him over to the couch and...curled up in his lap. And instead she'd be sitting through dinner. Making polite conversation.

So she took a half-step back, just to be nearer. Feel the slow heat between them, and the Damned sweetness of how he was with her.

"You swap sexes too?" she asked Bruce.
