CD. Stuff from Beckett. (Well worth it.) Shoes. Headset. Bugs. (Yes, you read that right. $40 worth. To be little buggy assassins.) And now....a Lamy Studio Fine Point fountain pen.
Okay, what kind of bugs, how many do you get for $40, and what will they expect to kill?
Once we bought an egg case of praying mantises, and then when it arrived we put it in the house's entryway until the weather got warmer, and then forgot about it until they hatched. Big OOOPS! Thankfully, the indoor bugs were close enough to the outdoors to mostly get shoo'ed into the garden where they belonged.
I bought Nematodes, ladybugs, and preying mantises. Well, the mantises were in two egg cases - both of which disappeared overnight. Since the limb the one of them had been on was pulled out of the lattice and to the ground, I think perhaps some animal found them to be a tasty treat.
Nice...We almost got some ladybugs last year. We end up getting quite a bit of them late in the season so we didn't order them at the end. Read on the internet, people even buy earth worms. Good thing we have plenty of them in the yard.
I found my penchant for retail therapy to be much less dangerous when I lived 2 blocks from Goodwill. I could get a whole afternoon of it for under $5!

The stove, however, did not actually catch fire, and the smell of smoke is finally starting to clear a bit.
