Superman vs. Batman

Jul 25, 2013 14:35

I've heard of the Man Of Steel sequel that will feature an adversarial relationship between the World's Finest, because fighting each other is what people want to see. Who cares about friendship and working together? Anyway, a few message boards I sampled said it would be a dud, stupid, etc. They said since Man Of Steel was so awful this would be ( Read more... )

I haven't seen the Lone Ranger, so I can't really comment on that. But I loved the Green Hornet! You can't really say it's not true to the source material anymore, because they sort of keep changing the source material up- especially in terms of recent Green Hornet books. (Where Cato is a woman, the Green Hornet is the original Green Hornet's son, etc ( ... )

The latest incarnation of the Lone Ranger is weird beyond belief! :)

There were things I liked about the Green Hornet movie: the sleek appearance of Black Beauty, the iconic costumes, the fumbling around as they try and figure out the superhero thing. What I didn't like was the frat boy tone of the film. I'm not a Seth Rogen fan at all, so, yes, I am biased in that regard.

And despite my love for the Bat-movies, I disliked Bruce not being his own tech/gadget designer and chemist, too. I suppose Nolan thought it wasn't realistic enough to have a guy with all those talents, so they used the considerable talents of Lucius Fox instead.

The thought of any Frank Miller influence in the next movie disturbs me greatly, but I'll just have to chalk it up to an AU (hopefully not too dreadful) when it comes out in 2015.

I've seen the previews and just wasn't interested in Lone Ranger at all, haha.

I guess that makes sense, I suppose the differences in our ages make it a little easier for me to relate to the character that Seth Rogen had in his portrayal. I can definitely understand disliking the frat boy tone of the film: but I like how they were true to it. Sure, they wound up solving the case, but at least in the portrayal Rogen didn't go from being a useless frat boy to ane elite crime fighting unit overnight. To say that Cato was the real hero is not an understatement, so I do like how they played that straight. Not saying that him being frat boy-ish was specifically a good call; but I think they did it so he was more able to be related to by the masses. Obviously I don't know for sure.

*shrugs* I guess to reach their own, because I dislike the Nolan Batman verse because of his "realism". I don't watch comic book movies for realism and his portrayal of Batman bothers me so much. I never even watched the third because the others were just so- ( ... )

The Lone Ranger lasted two weeks at our local multiplex and is now at the cheap theater. Yeesh!

Hey, it's all good! We like what we like but it doesn't mean we'll like the same things. :)

I agree with you about Frank Miller.

And double agree with your last statement. When I was growing up, comics gave me a sense of wonder. Now it's more like a sense of horror!

Comics are very flexible, yes! Lots of Elseworlds out there. :)

We got a bone tossed to us at the end of The Dark Knight Rises for Robin but otherwise nothing. And as for Frank Miller, he character-assassinated Dick in one of his godawful graphic novels.

I agree about Man of Steel. Not completely awful, but certainly not the movie I was hoping for. I felt they left out too much of Clark, who, for me, is the one who holds Kal-El's personality and soul. And, please, could the fight scene have been any longer?!

And, yes, The Lone Ranger was a complete mess! Like Dark Shadows before it, it was as if they couldn't make up their mind if it was a comedy or a drama, so they ended up being neither. Both were huge disappointments.

As far as a movie bringing Batman and Superman together, I think a lot will depend on who plays Batman. Still, I have a feeling they'll screw that up, too. And, like silvertales, I resent there being no Richard Grayson.

Yes, that's it! Not enough Clark! Despite his wandering around for years (and if he started wandering after high school, does that mean he's been drifting around for 15 years?!), I thought they concentrated too much on Kal-El. Though I suppose that's to be expected for the origin movie they chose to do.

I was sorely disappointed with The Lone Ranger. Now that the franchise has endured two glaring strikes, I fear that's it for these wonderful characters. The reviews have been murder, and from what I saw of the trailer, weirdsville! There was also some sickening violence mentioned in some reviews, too (eating out an enemy's heart, ugh!). I guess Hollywood has no clue what to do with a Western setting anymore.

I am royally ticked off that Dick is just shoved off-stage for all the modern incarnations of Batman. Shame on them!

EDIT: I agree about the fight scene's length. Cut out fifteen minutes and it would have been just fine. By the end I was almost laughing as every time Jenny and Perry and Steve looked up, something else was ( ... )

I agree with bradygirl12 and gilda elise there wasn't enough clark kent as a drifer just helping people like how he was showen lifing the oil rig when it callapsed and saving the workers. We were told that he saved people by Lois, it would have been better if we were showen his heroics as a confused/arngery young man that was just trying to find his place in the world

And I am ticked off too that dick gets no respect form the modern incarnation of batman, meaning he's not in the movies, shame on them

I suppose they couldn't show more heroics because as it was the movie was too long, but more family scenes in Smallville would have been nice. :)

Yay, another Dick Grayson fan! We're a loyal bunch! :)

I am so damn happy they're doing this. Loved Man of Steel, love Cavill as Supes. In all likelihood they're going to start of adversarial but eventually become brothers, which is how I view the relationship of the two. I wonder who the villains would be. Luthor would be good or Braniac but I also hope we don't get a big Batman villain like Joker. Maybe a smaller time one, like Black Mask, hired by Luthor to stir up some trouble in Metropolis and get Batman into Supe's territory.

The only thing that could make this movie bad is if the person they cast for Batman has terrible chemistry with Cavill and can't act.

The final shot of the World's Finest movie needs to be Superman and Batman in the Batcave with Batman opening a file on Wonder Woman, Flash, and John Stewart GL played by Idris Elba.

I like your thinking! :)

I, too, would prefer a non-Joker villain. I'm betting at least Lex is in the next movie, because he is the Superman villain everyone knows.

And I hope they cast someone who is gorgeous and can act as Bruce! They did the last time. ;)

I like that ending! :)

They need to pull another Keaton with the Batman casting, someone no one expects but can act the part and not someone really famous. Bale himself wasn't as famous before the Batman role, Empire of the Sun besides.

I also hope we get a better look at Clark Kent the reporter. We've had Clark Kent the person and we've seen Kal-El and the start of Superman. Hopefully the movie focuses a good amount of time defining those roles more.

Also we'll be getting a Year 2 Supes so that's good. Man of Steel was also interesting because it was basically the worst first day on the job a guy can go through.

Also there really needs to be a line from Bruce about Clark owing him a new satellite.

I would like to see an unknown who just nails the part!

Clark Kent the Reporter makes me happy. :)

LOL! You're right about the worst first day evah!

I'm sure Bruce won't let that slide. ;)
