re: " is it a dictate of movies and TV to completely ignore comics canon for so many characters? " -- it surprises me that saying this, you would complain about hair color, but apparently have no issues with the fact Perry is a black man in this. Not that I have any issues with it (or think you should, even), it's just that I don't understand: you're picky about something incredibly small, but yet don't have any issues with this change, which is a pretty big one, in comparison. It sounds to me like you're contradicting yourself completely, that's all.
Totally agree with the amount of destruction. It annoyed me that they basically annihilated Metropolis. So not necessary!!
Also.. "I am your father, Kal" ?! I rolled my eyes. And laughed. Because, seriously, I couldn't *not* see the similarity - I'm pretty sure it was there on purpose anyway. I suppose it's pretty standard a way to tell someone you're their father, but still...
About Perry? I guess I'm used to skin color being changed for characters in recent years, like Marvel's Nick Fury. :) I noticed the hair colors because if you're going to keep the skin color compliant with canon, why not the hair? But that's just my peccadillo. It's like Arrow changing Dinah's name to Laurel and Mia's to Thea: small details but annoying.
I really hated seeing Metropolis trashed. After awhile it started getting funny that every time a character looked up, something else was falling out of the sky heading straight for them! ;)
LOL! The line was pretty funny. We've been spoiled forever by that 'other universe'. ;)
Yay! I've been waiting for a review from someone I trust. Since it will be another long wait to see it myself I've been keeping an eye out for useful posts that actually inform.
I'm generally neutral on the hair color thing. Noel Neill, one of the first screen Lois' was a redhead, though, and she had red hair in the comics for awhile.
It's terrible of me probably, but hearing about the Zod thing actually scored a point with me. I get tired sometimes of villains being let go to kill and pillage another day. It doesn't do any good to lock the Joker up in Arkham, and when you take it to the level of Zod--if there's no Phantom Zone to send him to, what's the alternative?
Anyway, it's good to get a reaction that isn't gushing or "I hate everything about this movie because there's no Lex Luthor and it's not Smallville."
Oh, yes, I remember Noel. Very pretty red hair. :) It just kind of aggravated me after all these years of Hollywood going willy-nilly with this stuff. Not an important detail and picky on my part, but that's what reviews are for! ;)
There wasn't much of an alternative, unfortunately, just as there wasn't with Diana and Max Lord. I can see why it was done but wish they hadn't gone there.
*grins*
I love Smallville but that's a different 'verse entirely. Lex will probably be in a future movie if they continue with this version of our favorite Kryptonian. And movie Lex never has the complexity our SV's Lex.
I would definitely rec this movie as it'll be a touchstone for a lot of fandom and you can be like Steve Rogers and 'get that reference' once you've seen it. ;)
P.S. I will save my gushing for half-naked Henry Cavill. He is a work of art! ;)
Hair again. :) I have to admit, the first time I saw some scans of comic book!redhead Lois it was terribly confusing. "Wait--is that Lana?" LOL
It's funny how something like that really can be fundamental to our vision of a character. Years later I still want to know why Val Kilmer didn't die his hair black for Batman Forever. I know the answer would be: because he's Val Kilmer and everyone expects him to be blond, but all the same, it's one of those details that takes me out of the movie if only for a moment.
Now see, one reason to welcome this darker and grittier vision of Clark is that when Lex does appear, maybe this time we won't get that campy version obsessed with real estate. (Honestly, where on earth does that even come from? I never understood that take on him.) This could be a big screen version that gives us the mad scientist/power hungry CEO we all know and love.
Henry has always been a joy to behoild. :) He is actually a pretty good actor too. I'm looking forward to his take on Napoleon Solo in the Man from UNCLE
( ... )
I think I'll always seem Chris Reeve as my Superman, but I do plan to see the movie. Maybe because of it, I probably won't mind the inconsistencies as much. But at the same time, I likely won't take this movie to my heart the way I did the Reeve movies.
I did mention Faora but didn't know her name. I figured she was the Ursa stand-in. :) Diana would tell you that women make the best warriors. ;)
I'm glad you enjoyed the film! I've never found Superman boring, but I know a lot of people do. If this movie makes him more interesting, I'll count that as a good thing. :)
I agree that he did seem happier by the end of the film. :)
I agree with your fave things, especially more naked Henry Cavill, heh heh! ;)
I would love to see a good Justice League movie. It might be the only way to see Diana in a live-action film, though I agree with you that Joss Whedon should do a Wonder Woman movie. Too bad the project fell through. :(

My headcanon always considers Lana a redhead. Chalk it up to reading all those Silver and Bronze Age comics! :)
I would love to see a more serious Lex in the movies!
Wow, that's a combo for that movie! I had no idea they were planning to do a film. I'll see what I think of Armie Hammer in The Lone Ranger. :)

You'll enjoy this latest movie. There are a lot of good things in it. Just don't have high expectations and you'll be pleasantly surprised. :)
