My betas, deserve more than just thanks for this vid. obsessive24 deserves all of the credit for anything that works and none of the blame for anything that doesn't. And the vid likely would not have been released at all without the input of laurashapiro.

Thanks also to millylicious for the vid banner and last-minute advice.

My previous two House season overviews are here:
My Little Drum (Season 1)
Vertigo (Season 2)

I was very surprised when House fired his team at the end of S3, but the more I thought about it the more sense it made.

Through House's guidance and influence, they had changed a lot over the first three years. Humanity had become less important, and they had become more withdrawn and analytical.

Foreman was aware this was happening to him, and it was the reason he wanted to leave. With Chase, Cameron, Wilson, and Cuddy it was a lot more subtle - but I also think that, on some level, they welcomed it. It was a painful process, but in the end there was less pain.

From his perspective, I honestly believe that House felt like he was rescuing them by making them more like him.

(Random side note: The day after I finished the first beta draft, I dreamed that my Dad turned into House. I'm sure a therapist would have a blast with that one.)

During the course of making the vid, I went through an identity crisis of my own; questioning my instincts, approach to structure, and how messages/narratives are sent and received through vids. I think I learned a lot about myself as a vidder, but very little of that is reflected in this vid. It'll be a process.

One of the reasons I chose the song is because the lead singer's life reminded me so much of the themes of withdrawal and emotional disconnect that I wanted to explore with the vid.

He battled drug addiction for years, eventually dying of an overdose alone and secluded in his apartment, just a few years after this song made his band a sensation. No one had seen him for months before - his friends would literally stand on the street throwing rocks at his window and get no response - and his body wasn't discovered for several days after.

i am the man in the box
buried in my shit
won't you come and save me?
save me

feed my eyes (can you sew them shut?)
jesus christ (deny your maker)
he who tries (will be wasted)
oh feed my eyes (now you've sewn them shut)

i am the dog who gets beat
shove my nose in shit
won't you come and save me?
save me

feed my eyes (can you sew them shut?)
jesus christ (deny your maker)
he who tries (will be wasted)
oh feed my eyes (now you've sewn them shut)

Hope you enjoy the vid. Please share your thoughts.

house, vid
