On a lighter note…

I resisted Facebook for many years because I disliked their privacy practices, but recently I came to the realization that I’m already a member of multiple social networks, all ( Read more... )

Because you're an outcast and no one but me loves you. You need to learn and accept that. ;)

That's some seriously hardcore smack you just laid down. Did a cake not turn out right or something? :)

I'm on there. Just look for my full name (no middle initial). I found a bunch of guys named "Tim Madsen," but they all look like German bodybuilders.

Which you very well may be for all I know. :)

I found you but it took a while. I suppose you could also be found by people who know your gmail address (hint to the rest of you).

Not my fault! boztopia December 30 2008, 22:28:17 UTC
Though, come to think of it, I like being somewhat elusive and opaque. :)

Seriously, I set my profile to public and what not, so I dunno what's up. A few people found me very easily that I wasn't expecting to--not sure why you guys are having trouble.

But I sent you a friend invite anyway, and the CAPTCHA code was "doing generation." Strangely appropriate, that.

saaank you dahhhlink.
although i warn you, one month on the left coast and you will give in to the myspace. i work at a nightclub and *i* would never know what was going on if not for myspace.
and i hate every blinkin' minute of it, but it's the only way to have a social life.
pfffft!

A man's got to have lines he simply will not cross, and MySpace is it for me. Surely if anyone can find a way to navigate the L.A. scene without resorting to the HTML graveyard, it'd be me.

Still, I take your warning and heed it. :)

Added.

I avoid the thing like the plague, for the most part. All applications, gifts, hugs, warm fuzzy bullshit, etc is ignored. Luckily once the new car smell wore off people stopped sending me the rainbow/puppy/unicorn/sparklypoop of the day app requests. Or the just got tired of not getting any sparklypoop back from me. I dunno. Don't care.

The privacy thing makes me really nervous to use the site to it's fullest. (says the girl with noodz on other social networking sites)

I'm going to be very careful about what groups I join and features I use, because I don't have much confidence in FB's ability to balance the privacy desires of its users against its all-encompassing need to demonstrate it can make money.

It's only as good, or as dangerous, as the data we give it.

I wonder if I've traumatized anybody by joining the LunaPads group...

I don't get it. How do you use Facebook?

This is not an idiot question, I swear. I have a profile (I'll add you eventually if you don't add me first). I occasionally check people's updates. I belong to a couple of groups, though like the person above I also ignore all applications because they look like annoying wastes of time. But I still don't get what Facebook is FOR.

See, here on LJ, you post, I respond, you respond, there is a CONVERSATION. A DISCOURSE. Real thought is used. LJ is no saint among social networks to be sure, but at least I can actually connect. Facebook feels like the overly made up girl in the remedial reading class: trying too hard and there's still no substance.

Am I missing something?
