Quincy was easy, I loved watching Quincy when I was a child and it was top of my list for a kid I couldn't have. Maddie was named by my ex husband, he was a fan of Moonlighting and her name was made up from the characters Maddie and David Addison = Maddison which soon became Maddie. Stegzy and I argue over future cat names, he favours 'socks' and 'buttons' which I think are wet. I favour 'Osvaldo Herring' which was the name from a spam email I received years ago or 'finoddery' a character from a kids book
The adapting is easier than you ever believed and the training can be so much fun. It's not just good for the dog but good for her people, too! She is very beautiful. The fact she's already been around children with no worries is a very great thing. Kids are the hardest to get used to after all! Good luck with your new baby girl.
I think because we were not expecting her to arrive so quickly, we still have various commitments during evenings and weekends. From now on we can take Juno into account, but it means we need to get various friends to dogsit in the short term. As chance would have it, there is no shortage of people wanting to spend 1-on-1 time with a cuddly young puppy. I'm glad we chose a dog rather than something like a crocodile.
I had a go at training yesterday. I got her to go to her bed when I asked her to. She can already sit down and put her paw in the air, though I cant take credit for that.
I see you have a Golden Retriever - how did you find the training? How many weeks did it take before she had the basics all covered?
We cheated - Our golden is a service dog. :) She began training with the organization she came from pretty much at birth. She is highly adaptable and skilled, so a little different than a pet. However, service dogs and pet dogs have it in common that the earlier you start with the training and building that positive relationship, the better off you are. She came home to us last November at a year of age. We spent 2 weeks in intensive training with her at the facility she was born at. The knowledge they imparted was tremendous! I have had dogs my whole life and this experience has taught me so, so much more than I knew before.
Patience, positive reinforcement and consistency will have her basics covered in no time. If she's already got sit, paw and going to her bed either under her belt or getting there that's a very good sign. Once your schedule settles, she'll likely rock a puppy class!
The first one uses a filter which exaggerates it a bit - she is a beautiful colour though. It is a mix of blue, grey and brown, depending on the light, how long you stare at her and what drugs you are on.

How did you decide names for your cats? It seems so... arbitrary.
