Big Blogger Wants You

Being professionally unemployed presents a dilemma.  In the off-chance you become employed again, how do you make sure your brain hasn't been turned into mush by all the Prison Break and Grey's Anatomy episodes?

Me being me, I've spent it reading up on current affairs.  One of my favorite newspapers is The Guardian, the UK's left-leaning broadsheet ( Read more... )

I've learned to classify de Quiros as more of an anti-establishment figure rather than a Communist. While I disagree with his political leanings, he's still a very powerful writer who deserves my time.

to be fair, I don't think bryanboy really is regarded by a lot of people as 'the most famous filipino blogger' (contest notwithstanding... diba sa isang contest siya nanalo). in any case, there are a lot more interesting pinoy blogs out there (you know, blogs that actually say something and not just go the 'dear diary...' route). you just have to look for them.

I admit that my evidence of Bryanboy's fame is purely anecdotal - I have several foreign blogger friends who've all read his blog/know about him. I haven't heard of any other Filipino blogger who's achieved the same...notoriety.

Feeling ko naman that the other local bloggers have particular niches (maybe technology or music for example) but they don't gain mass international appeal. If you know any interesting 'undiscovered' local blogs, feel free to share.

notoriety... is relative i guess. maybe bryan boy's 'notoriety' has more to do with the internet circles you roam in as opposed to actual popularity itself? ;)

yeah they do have particular niches, much like 90% of all other blogs out there. but some of them do get mass international appeal.

Connie Veneracion (local columnist for the standard) has a series of blogs (about Philippine Law, Filipino Cooking, etc) at her site at http://www.houseonahill.net (and she does have an international following there)

Jessica Zafra has a blog! Although it has more 'dear diary...' stuff than you actually expect her to put up.

There's Jonas San Diego's blog at http://jonasdiego.blogspot.com where he posts his regular webcomic. It's even been featured by the inquirer.

There's David Hontiveros' blog where he posts sample chapters from his own horror novel ( ... )

Thanks! And yes, the people who knew about Bryanboy were all fag hags (who liked Filipinos) so I guess it says something. ;)

'Next Star Wars kid'...I think I'm missing a geek reference there.

In the interest of peacebuilding and sustainable post-conflict resolution, I'm making my debut post in your blog. Include naman my colleague Randy David in your roster. And ... does Pat count as top-notch columnist too? ;p -N.

But the Inquirer does have...several top-notch columnists (de Quiroz, David, Pangalangan and Quezon)...

I mentioned Randy! I even mentioned Walden. Alam mo naman benta ang sociological perspectives sa akin. :P
