It's just a lizard. Their tails come off when grabbed as a defense thingy. We used to try and catch them when I was little.

I think it's actually a skink. It could be an alligator lizard but the long tail makes me think it's a skink. They're really common and they do flick off their tail when they're really scared.
They don't all grow them back though. It just depends its health at the time, and how close it is to winter. The tail is like its winter fat bank account.
