That's super cool. I love all those little tricks directors use to convey the right sense of emotion. I'd never read about this technique, but it is really effective!
Thanks for posting this. I'm going to have to go back and watch that part of 7.03. I've been impressed with Jensen's directing, especially for being pretty new to it. Every time I read one of these things, I think it would be really cool to take a class on film techniques. I love this stuff. This trick is subtle and I don't even recognize it when it's there but it makes so much sense.
After 7x03 I was really impressed with JA's directing, too. The whole first part of the episode (Dean at the hospital, waking up, and then escaping the hospital with Bobby and Sam) was done esp. well. I can see Manners' influence. I've been meaning to do a director meta for JA specifically, but I think I should wait until after the next episode he directs airs.

*flails* I noticed the article and was almost glued to the screen when reading about JA and Hitchcock, because dude, DIRECTOR!JENSEN. \o/ I love hearing how he approaches directing. Also, this is a very current topic as S8 started filming today. \o/ \o/

It seems like we're not the only ones in fandom who eat this stuff up. :) Am I going out on a limb here by venturing to say that the SPN fandom is pretty singular in the fact we get excited about BTS stuff?

I know! This year at Comic-Con I wanted JP to stop pretending to snore loudly while JA began doing his director talk. Usually I'm all "Yay, more JP being loud and silly" but this time I was practically shushing him at my computer.

Awesome! I can't wait to see the entire thing. :D It's a shame this seems to be the only clip that was recorded. Out of the number of people in that cavernous hall, you'd think there might be other snippets that could be assembled into the full teaser.

And of course the film really mirrors a bit of what we had in S7, where in a way Dean kills Amy "for" Sam, and Sam kills Emma for Dean.
