I feel like ive been going through this whole sobriety thing with a fucking fake smile on my face and an air of" dont worry, im fine". Problem is, IM NOT FINE. BUT I AM STILL A PERSON. Umm, no offense to your mom and what she is saying about how you "can't" change your makeup... but that's a really stupid thing to say in any instance. You CAN change, it takes will, it takes determination, it takes perserverance, and it above all it take commitment, but you CAN. I just don't think her saying that gives you any sort of motivation at all to feel better, it only seems like a way of saying, "you're stuck where you are, you can't do anything about it, tough shit." That's just incredibly insensitive, if I'm reading it right, because you deserve better than that, you deserve to know how great you are and how much you are capable of. Yeah it is tough to be sort of the "outcast" at those sort of events, but don't let yourself be pushed around in your head, just enjoy it, forget about the alcohol and think about the conversations, the friends you are with, just say, "screw alcohol and screw dudes, I just gotta dance!" Let your mind feel the ease that comes with letting go of these things, cause when you really get down to ( ... )
