And yeah, Kirk/Spock is the original fandom slash pairing. That's where the, erm, / in slash comes from. And recs are pretty much impossible when you're going back to the 60s 'cause it was all pre-internet. Obviously. ;)

I'm not sure if I should think of the character as sexy - in anything else, I would not. But this film seems to be actually aware that's he's a complete tool, and a bit of a desperate loser, and THAT'S what makes it work. I can support the dick!character if there's an awareness that he is in fact a dick, as we're not supposed to think of them admirable as such (which is what usually happens.) British comedy does this well, creating a complete prick of a character you end up getting behind, but it's much rarer in this medium. I liked his character much more because of it - it's fun! But then, I don't think there's a single character I disliked in this film, and that's not happened in a very, very long time, certainly not for a big blockbuster such as this one ( ... )
