I'm not either. I would complain that Pegg isn't Scottish, but neither was Doohan. The one bit I liked was the rumor that Gary Sinise is going to play Doctor McCoy, which seems like a no-brainer.
I, for one, love it. Simon Pegg can do no wrong--once upon a time I didn't think he could pull off Hot Fuzz, but lo and behold. Also, I will bet his scottish accent is killer.
Course, I can't stand the original Star Trek. I'm ok with Next Gen though because Patrick Stewart is hot. They know they're never going to get the original Star Trek fans. They're going for a much younger audience with this. gary sinise and john c. reilly are too old. It's JJ Abrams, so it's got to be baby-young and pretty twenty-somethings to early thirties. Just be glad there's no Jennifer Garner.
I think they get the original fans automatically. If the original fans don't like it, they are only going to watch it 20 times instead of 30. And maybe (just maybe) they will only buy the regular two disc special edition DVD instead of the Super-Deluxe 11 disc collection with Captain Kirk action figure.
The original Trek was baby-young and pretty twenty-somethings to early thirties, and it did pretty well. Respective ages, because I'm anal:
yeah, they were all so young on the tv show, which I suspect is what abrams is going after.
also, jon cho as sulu is seriously brilliant, both for abrams and also for cho, since he and kal penn have both been pretty clear about the casting issues they've run into in dealing with the whole asian issues.

The original Trek was baby-young and pretty twenty-somethings to early thirties, and it did pretty well. Respective ages, because I'm anal:
Kirk: 35 old, 27 new.
Sulu: 29 old, 35 new.
Spock: 35 old, 30 new.
Scott: 46 old, 37 new.
Uhura: 34 old, 29 new.
Chekov: 30 old, 18(!) new.
Other than Chekov and Scott, the differences aren't too huge. I'm thinking that they are taking Chekov in a different direction, considering that age.
