Buffy Season 1 vs Dollhouse Season 1

Apr 06, 2010 12:15

I just finished watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 1 and while I can't say much right now because I must leave for work soon...I must say that if you haven't watched Buffy linearly I don't think you have any right to compare it to Dollhouse Season 1.

My reasons are simple:
two reasons under the cut )

tv show: buffy the vampire slayer, rant, tv show: dollhouse, reviews

I completely agree with reason 1 :)
And reason 2 actually, Alpha is a way better villain.

But. I do think in Buffy S1 it is less about the Big Bad itself and more about introducing the characters, etc etc. Which you might think seems sort of slow taking a whole thirteen episodes, but then Buffy had seasons and seasons to flesh out, whereas with Dollhouse, they pretty much knew they'd get three seasons at most.

I dunno, maybe the pressure on Dollhouse was a good thing in the sense that it made them get on with stuff. But don't be put off Buffy by it's first season, it gets much better :)

It isn't that it turned me off I just find it in comparison to be weaker. I will watch season two and three cos I know it gets better it just bugs me that people who have only seen a few episodes of Dollhouse feel completely justfied to discuss its suckage when they haven't even seen a full season. By the end of Dollhouse season one I was attached to all the characters. By the end of this season of Buffy all I can tell you for a fact is Xander is driving me nuts!

Also I think I am just starting to prefer more naturalistic science fiction. Like Battlestar Galactica and Caprica. I will continue to watch Buff though of course.

Btw, in case you are wondering about the Bennett Halverson comment I think that post is under my "rant" tag or i could link you to it.

Given you and me have exactly the same taste I would suggest you to hold on with Buffy (seasons two and five are just amazing) and than to watch Angel, which, I think, it's the best Whedon show :)

Me too! I mean, generally I prefer that kind of stuff rather than fantasy fiction but Buffy and Angel are special. They will always have a place in my heart. Buffy, anyway, could be boring sometimes (especially during season 4 and, as you found out by yourself, during season 1), while Angel it's darker and more complex and for this reasons it never gets boring. The constant tense atmosphere remind me of Dollhouse, in a way.

That being said, you're totally right, Dollhouse season one is waay better that Buffy season one (in which there are just two or three decent episodes!) :)

AH, ALSO, HAPPY BIRTHDAY <333 (Sorry I'm late, I know It was yesterday ç_ç)

That's okay! I totally accept belated birthday wishes from friends :)

I am going to keep going with Buffy I just need 1) The netflix player to behave and 2) The time to finish watching it. I still have scriptfrenzy and school work to do this month. :)
