Vid recs: BSG, Kara vids and Kara/Lee vids

I've been planning to make a BSG vid recs post for weeks. I have a ridiculous number of vids to rec, so consequently, I've decided to split them into several posts. This first set are all Kara/Lee vids, though some of them are more 'shippy' than others.

Just watched the Kara vid recs on Imeem. Wow, these are so different than the ones that I favor. Such a balance to the sort of sad, ballady songs. These videos have such energy and you're right about the brilliant editing.

It's like the two sides of Kara, the sad, vulnerable part and then the crazy-fast, take no prisoners, blown 'em to hell pilot side. I miss seeing this side of Kara. I definitely am going to be watching these videos again to get all the little moments.

Sorry about the lack of good Lee vids. Someone out there's gotta know some.

Yeah, I guess you could see it as the difference between being in Kara's pov (internal psychology) and 'fangirling' her from a distance (external, active). I think with one of these Kara vids, the vidder even made a point of saying it's kind of from Lee's point of view. And I guess that's the way I see Kara usually. Though watching the vids you recced has helped me get into Kara's psychology a little more, I must admit! I even got a Kara vid bunny today. Whereas most of the time, when I think of Kara vid ideas, I think of Kara-through-Lee's-eyes. Fascinating, isn't it?

As for the lack of Lee vids... well, I've got two theories:
- he's not the hotshot action hero that Kara is, so he's not as popular a choice for an external type vid.
- I guess people either aren't that interested in his internal psychology or find it 'too emo' (ha!) ... or too self-evident (?) to vid.

I await Lee recs expectantly. *camps out with candles*

It is fascinating. I was thinking about your comment today. You see Kara through Lee's eyes and I see Lee through Kara's eyes. Like he's always reacting or smiling down at her or something.

Why is Lee so hard to vid? I think season 1 didn't focus on him much. Season 2 some of his best scenes were deleted. Season 3 was definitely Lee season. He had some really fine moments.

I think Lee is more subtle and there's a part of Kara that's really overt. A lot of things about Lee one sort of intuitively knows but it's not always shown thorough an action you can vid. Like easier to vid Bastille Day than Lee on the stand in CR1. (However, I’m dying for someone to vid Lee lounging in his quarters or in his suit or in the white shirt. Eye candy is okay with me!) I don't know if that makes sense but yeah, action.

I think you and other Lee people can totally vid Lee (or Kara for that matter). It would have to be someone who really gets him. And there's now a wealth of footage out there!

Okay, I couldn’t just leave you Lee-less like this, it’s just not right. There are some videos with Lee focus by pandora-576 here. He’s her favorite character, I think. Demons is the kind of angsty, emo thing that you’d expect (or I'd expect. I like angst). I really like it, it made me go “Aww, Lee” several times. I’m Too Sexy is just eye candy which is lovely. (I think she'll probably upload a higher-res version soon.) Sometimes I wonder if I don’t get Lee all the time cause I get too distracted by his cheekbones. Cheekbones are in full effect in this vid!

I’m still going through her videos. Please let her know if you like them!

I really like her latest, Perfect. It's Lee and Kara but more Lee. Made me cry.

Thank you for the vid recs - I'm downloading a handful to look at, now the mad writing bug is leaving me alone for a little while.

As for your Lee challenge - I've seen a couple of good Lee vids, but not that many. I think he's a lot harder to vid for - I know that I've got a couple of songs earmarked for him, but I've not been able to work out quite how to put them together yet.

*nods* I agree. Lee is harder to vid for. (At least, that's what I suspect.) laurashas' 'A Day Like Today' is the only Lee-vid I've seen that has a really definitive feel to it. Please rec me any good Lee vids you find! *begs* I want to vid him myself but I had fear about doing him justice. Though now that I've confronted the void of Lee vids, that fear seems somewhat absurd.

Have you seen Lilith's "Behind Blue Eyes"? That's one of the small handful of Lee vids I've got, and possibly the best I've seen - although I've not seen the vid you've mentioned, so I might've missed loads of them...

Aww the space beneath 'Lee Vids' looks so sad; I can only hope that with the Lee-centric storylines at the end of season 3, there'll be a few Lee vids appearing. Oh, I feel completely the same way. 'It's LEE!' = pressure much! His POV has been the clearest to me since the mini too. *bonds* It's an instinctive connection to me and I'm always pleased to meet others (rare) who feel the same way. However, as you say, I feel too close to him to be able to vid him. I was even scared to vid Kara/Lee, as ( ... )

You're so wonderful about my vids, thank you! *blushes* I hadn't vidded in ages before I discovered BSG last year, and I'm so thankful to the fandom for releasing my hibernating muses. :)

We should probably both pause and reflect that feeling like we are inadequate to the task of Lee-vidding is, in and of itself, rather Lee-like and probably indicative that we're actually the right people for the job.Omg yes, too Lee-like to take the plunge and make Lee vids - why hadn't I thought of that before?! *laughs ( ... )

With Lee, so many of his conflicts are internal and repressed until they manifest themselves in depression and er, overeating (eek! I can't face vidding Fat!Lee).
Oh, yeah, I know! It's one of the most obvious visual signs of disarray in Lee's emotional life, yet how could one vid that without it becoming farcical?! It even became a joke on the show! I do know what you mean about his actions needing teasing out more... I guess because Lee's such an inward-directed character whereas Kara represses so much that it does come out in action and external symbol. (I'm not sure I'm making much sense either.) Jamie does so much with his acting, with facial expressions and physical stance, but you're right that you can't rely on that alone for vidding purposes--where are the big dramatic Lee shots? Hmmm... *puts on thinking cap*
