If I was a) more bitchy and b) had more time, I would write a post deconstructing the disturbing aspects of RDM's psyche and/or personal neuroses and delusions that are reflected in the show's dying episodes.
Oh I really wish you would. Or if not you than someone within (or exiting) this fandom whose opinion I respect. Because I can't help feeling that each and every problem that the show is now facing comes down to RDM and his a) lack of respect for the fans that have been with the show since the mini/S1 and b) he's just lost in his own world where he either can't see what he's doing or doesn't care. If it's A than I'm absolutely heartbroken and will never forgive him for shitting all over us and if it's B than that's just sad and disturbing when you look back at what the show used to be.
I'll be there till the end just to see what happens but...well, I'm not really emotionally there anymore. And I'm heartbroken about that.
he's just lost in his own world where he either can't see what he's doing or doesn't care I think he actually CAN'T SEE. Which makes me really dislike him because I have no fondness for people who lack self-awareness at such an epic level. I think his ego has been allowed to grow beyond all valid proportions, and there's noone that can rein him in.
And hey, a little bit of A and a little bit of B is how I feel most of the time.
I'm pretty past heartbroken at this point--just disbelieving. But I had months of rage and disappointment about it.
The one from 'before' which I fell in love with (and still adore) and the one from 'after' which is one of the most boring, nonsensical bits of television ever.
YES. I will always, always love the early seasons (and a few eps/moments from other seasons) and luckily that can't be taken away from me. I am really disappointed with the show lately (liked the mutiny arc, but that's b/c it felt like S1-S2) and even if they do some great things in the final episodes, they can't make up for the last 2 years.
But it's also not worth my time to stay angry about it (my *annoyed* posts are pretty short cause I don't wanna spend time on them), so I've mostly been reflecting on the show I loved (the show from before) and the characters I loved (still love, no matter what they do to them) and this helps cheer me up.
Yes, I'm much in the same headspace, I think. I don't like whingeing and I don't want to spend time on something that is not (or no longer) pleasurable. I do think back fondly to the earlier seasons and I will ALWAYS love them, but the rest is a wreck.
I am still about three episodes behind because I get in every day and sigh at the thought of watching it. In fact, I'm so jaded, I'm going to read all the spoilers, which I never did before.
Just watching JB looking beautiful and well-used on Law & Order, which is at least a known quantity of adequate. Homg, he just flirted with a witness and mmzzbbnmm. Wow, I have never seen him do that before, he's always cast as geeky.
Bet RDM's still with the "Sam's less complicated a hero/Adamaslin are never wrong/robots were born to bicker" stories. I am DITCHING YOU FOR A PROCEDURAL. *g* Heh.
I totally recommend reading the spoilers. I spoiled myself for a bit in the last few eps and it didn't make it either better or worse--it was just indifferent blah.
Yeah, I get the feeling that Jamie is actually cast as quite the flirt/hottie on L&O (at least in comparison to Old Police Dude!). How refreshing! *g*
Bet RDM's still with the "Sam's less complicated a hero/Adamaslin are never wrong/robots were born to bicker" stories. You got it! Except that Sam is an Even MORE Special Snowflake now. *eyeroll*
I am still waiting to discover the secret of Sam's special snowflakeness and how the writers thought he was a better Hero than Lee and worthy of all the interesting destiny stuff.
I don't watch just for Lee, but it ruins my confidence in the series as a whole when I keep hearing about his one line a week. Maybe they should have killed him :(
You know, watching JB flirt and get all the lingering camera shots makes me realise how starved I've been. He's in daylight! And close-up! And people actually care about what he's saying! I also noticed that you can still follow the plot if you fast-forward over bits of 'Order' and anything in the courtroom :D
I think they should have killed Lee, yeah. That would be preferable for me.
There is ONE thing that is making Sam's 'specialness' slightly more bearable for me right now but I don't want to spoil you in case you care?
I keep wanting to vid BSG to Jens Lekman's 'Hey (Shut the fuck up boy)' song--because that neatly sums up how I feel about Sam. Except that 'starting' to piss me off is an epic understatement.
We've ALL been starved of the glory of JB!!
I also noticed that you can still follow the plot if you fast-forward over bits of 'Order' and anything in the courtroom :D AWESOME. Good to know! I like this plan.
'Wow. It actually got worse. I didn't think that was possible! *blinks*' Sigh, Deadlock has been my lowest point, and I am avoiding podcasts with a passion, because they were driving me crazy. I don't want to know anymore that what is or *should be* on the screen.
Boppy, I am still enjoying BSG, for what it is. It's not the same this season, and I *do* have issues - especially with the underuse of Lee,and the way that Lee/Kara has been ignored especially, but I still want to see how it all plays out. Maybe it will make sense to me then. I think that this season has shown me that maybe they pulled the pin and finished the series too early, because it seems like a lot of things important to the character development, and the story progression, that should have been included or built up more slowly, have been rushed, excluded altogether or explained in a podcast (- infuriating!!!).
I can't really find anything to like about the show now--if I started watching it in season 4, I'd never keep watching it. For me it's more than rushed character progression--I feel RDM's underlying narrative is flawed, so perhaps I was just never going to be satisfied by where he wanted to take the show.
(This is ridiculously hyper and flaily about Jamie's new show. You've been warned. ;))
I just realized after watching Jamie's new show, episode 2, that I ENJOYED A PROCEDURAL MORE THAN ALL OF BSG SEASON 4 COMBINED. OMG. And since I actually enjoy the mothership, as wisteria_ calls it, I sat through the entire episode and realized: I really, really like the characters. As in, there's no one I want to knife. Everyone's enjoyable. After Matt, I am totally in love with the Crown Prosecutor guy, who is totally AWESOME. Ahem.
And also, seeing Jamie SMILE is like OMG because the last time Lee actually GRINNED was, like, A GAZILLION EPISODES AGO. Oh Matt, I love you so damn much. Have you seen that screencap around from the latest episode where he is flirty with a witness/person who doesn't matter because SHE IS NOT JAMIE OR FREEMA OR CROWN PROSECUTOR GUY? He has the most adorable grin EVER. Aaah, Jamie, we've been SO DEPRIVED OF YOU. *fangirls Jamie/Matt/Lee all over again*
Sorry so late replying--finally snatched time to watch it. And wheee, yes! I am enjoying it WAAAAAY more than BSG. The characters are all pretty likeable, and yeah, Crown Prosecutor dude is interesting and I'm kind of into his angst with the fremale defense attourny.
I like how Matt is flirty and seems pretty easy going, but he also has these moments of thinky as well. Without them become an epic bout of leemo-depression!! They're just punctuation to note that Something Horrible has been encountered. ;)
