I'm glad you picked up a guitar. I hope you are able to play it, but even if your hands don't allow you to be a virtuoso, it's still a very positive thing.
As you may have read in my LJ, last year I found a "banjo-ukulele" that had belonged to my mother, amongst the boxes of random stuff that survived Superstorm Sandy. I hadn't even known she had a ukulele! But I got it restored to playable condition, and bought a beginner's book, and began teaching myself to play. I'd never played a stringed instrument before, just piano, but it wasn't difficult to pick it up. (And, being small, it's easier to carry around than a guitar...)
Keep at it. You don't have to become a virtuoso - just play from your heart. Yes, it'll hurt at first, like the surgery that fixed your feet. But you know it's the kind of hurt that heals deeper, older pain.
And, of course, congratulations on having two usable feet again!

I don't play as much as I'd like, but at least I get a few cuts in now and then. Good on ya for diving back into it!
