Summary: Not many people ever got to see the insecure girl behind the brash front. But sometimes you just had to reach out and trust someone.

Author's Notes: No idea where this came from, but Ah may have been inspired by reading a particularly good BtVS/X-Men cross.

“This time Rogue,” said Faith gently, “Touch me.”

Rogue exhaled slowly, and absently tucked a strand of hair back behind one ear. “Y’sure bout this, Faith? Real sure?”

Faith knelt down in front of Rogue and took both her gloved hands in hers. Suddenly shy, and feeling like she was going to blush for some reason, Rogue studied those hands. Every tiny imperfection jumped out, every tiny remaining trace of scar tissue, anything to avoid looking at her … friend… in the face.

“Marie,” said Faith even more gently than before, “You already know everything about me. My past, my friends, my regrets. How I feel about you. Ain’t nothing that you see in me that I even want to hide from you.”

Their eyes met. Faith, the tough girl who could almost out drink Logan, and could definitely outswear him, had tears glistening in her face. Her voice roughened as she angrily blinked them away, “And it’s not like you don’t know Magic’s real - or that your powers can be blocked. So, why can’t you - why won’t you trust me when I tell you that Willow’s made it right for us?”

“Because it’s too easy!” blurted out Rogue, thrusting Faith’s hands away, sending Faith sprawling back onto the floor. “Life’s not like that! Nothin’ comes easy for us here in Xaviers! Nothin’!” She scrambled off the bed and fled to the window. Staring out over the school grounds, she held her arms almost protectively over her chest.

“Look at Remy,” she said quietly.

Faith almost snarled from her prone position, and picked herself up. Of course that damn Gambit had to be at the bottom of all this. Fricking Cajun had screwed Rogue up so much that she didn’t even know which way up was. She couldn’t stake any humans or mutants, but she silently promised herself that when they finally met (and that would so happen) he’d end up with a broken jaw at the very least.

“Remy’s a Marauder now,” Faith eventually offered after a pause. “He made his choice a while back. That had nothing to do with you and everything to do with him lying to the X-Men from the very beginning!” Despite her wishes, her voice started rising at the end. She checked her anger down. This wasn’t about her and how she felt about some bastard she’d never met. This was about Marie.

“You couldn’t have known,” Faith said softly, placing a consoling hand on Rogue’s shoulder.

“But Ah should have!” exclaimed Rogue, spining away from Faith’s touch. “He… touched… me. Deeper than anyone else ever has. Ah got so used to being alone, t’ the idea that ah’d always be alone. That Ah deserved to be alone.”

Faith slammed Rogue back into the wall, and stared at her. “You are fucking nuts, girl,” she breathed and kissed her hard.

For one moment, Rogue was lost.

Faith’s mouth was so hot, so pressed against hers, the pressure immense and her tongue teasing and tempting. She could feel goosebumps on her arms and her nipples tightened beneath the constricting X-Men uniform.

And for a moment, she forgot it all.

Reality crashed in, and she thrust Faith away. Gasping for air, she stared at the smirking Slayer. “Are you nuts!?!? What t’hell were you thinking?”

Faith smirked again and stepped towards her again. “Oh, I dunno. Why don’t you tell me?”

“You shouldn’t have done that,” Rogue breathed, and tried stepping back away from Faith, only to find herself pressed up against the wood panelling again. Her wide eyes met Faiths, whose own gaze seemed almost hungry. And sultry. And so inviting.

“You can’t tell me, can you?” said Faith, closing in. “You have no idea what I was thinking. You got nothing from me in that kiss. Willow’s spell worked.”

Rogue shook her head wildly, yet never breaking eye contact. “No…” she whimpered.

Faith reached out one bare hand and rested it gently on Rogue’s cheek. Flesh on flesh. It felt warm and comforting and inviting. Without realising it, Rogue found herself leaning into the hand.

“I can touch you.”

Her other hand came up and stroked the other cheek. Rogue felt herself responding almost involuntarily, her mouth opening in a sigh of pleasure. Faith’s body was now pressed up against her, the cold wall at her back forgotten about. The heat rushing through her body, caused by the touch of another…

“And just for the record, yes - I was thinking you were fucking nuts for thinking that you deserve to be alone. But mainly, I was thinking something else.” Faith’s eyes, only inches away now, danced with both an inner fire and a private joke.

And somehow there was a small, slow smile tugging at the corner of her mouth, and Rogue knew that this was going to work out. “Ah do know you well enough t’ know you want me to ask, sugah.”

Faith smiled at her. “Life is short, and you were hot. Now shut up and kiss me back.”

The smile was creeping ever further across her mouth, and Rogue could feel her lips threatening to break out into a full fledged grin. “Make me…” she whispered, an impish look in her eyes.

The hands on her cheeks dropped away and Faith’s lips were hovering there, millimetres away from her own lips. “Challenge accepted,” came Faith’s voice, slightly hoarser than before, and to her delight, Rogue realised she was having just as much of an effect on her as the Slayer was doing to her.

Faith trailed a series of light, fluttering kisses along Rogue’s jaw, sending shivers through the mutant. One hand came back up and behind Rogue, stroking through her hair, teasing the white lock of hair. Faith’s warm breath against the nape of her neck now caused Rogue to take a deep intake of air.

For the first time since Faith first kissed her, Rogue’s hands came up and wrapped around Faith’s back, holding her close. Her gloves felt odd against Faith’s smooch back, sliding over the silk blouse. So unlike Remy’s ever-present trenchcoat.

All thoughts of Gambit fled Rogue’s mind as Faith’s spare hand slid along the side of her X-Men uniform, grazing the underside of her breast. “Ohhh…” she moaned, as Faith nuzzled her neck and slowly nibbled at the lobe of her ear.

Could she do this? Could she really, honestly get involved with a woman? Her body was screaming to be touched by anyone, but could she really cope with a relationship with another woman? Sure, she’d thought about it theoretically when Faith had first made her interest plain, and she’d eventually decided that yes, she could.

But this was here and now, and it was really happening. A fact her body was reminding her of way too much. Faith trailed a row of kisses along her shoulder blade and a ripple of sheer pleasure seared through her.

“Wait!” Rogue said, and gently pushed Faith away from her. The Slayer stood there, slightly out of breath herself, with a concerned look on her face.

Rogue placed one gloved finger against Faith’s mouth. “Shhh…” she whispered, “Mah turn t’ do the speakin’ now, sugar.”

Slowly, she pulled the glove off her hand and dropped it to the floor. Her other glove followed. She reached out her hand towards the waiting Faith, almost stopping halfway as the enormity of the situation hit her. She gulped, and reached out again. She ran one finger down Faith’s cheek in a reverse of Faith’s approach to her.

“Mah armor’s all gone.”

With a couple of quick motions, Rogue’s uniform joined the gloves.

“Touch me, Faith.”

Two floors down, in the X-Mansion’s kitchen, Wolverine paused in the middle of grabbing a bottle of beer from the fridge and sniffed the air. He sniffed once, twice, thought about it and sniffed again.

A slow smile crossed his face, and he closed the fridge door behind him. Using one claw, he popped the cap off the bottle and raised it upwards in salute. “Huh. Bout goddamned time someone got a happy ending round here,” he muttered.

Now, who’d had Tuesday in the betting pool….?
